oil in coolant overflow
o.k. i do not know crap about ford's but my buddy has a 05 bone stock with 127'000 miles on it. noticed a puddle of oil under it on drivers side. then checked oil and it was o.k. then check coolant and it is all oil brown in resivor. no oil in crank case. sounds like a head gasket on it's way out to me. are these trucks prone to HG problems? truck still runs fine. any advise is welcome! thanks:hellox:

Yes, these trucks are very prone to headgaskets, even stock. Usually the oil and coolant doesn't mix though, that's not common.
I'm confused because you said you checked oil and it was fine, but there was no oil in crankcase? Where is the oil coming from that is leaking onto the ground? |
sorry my bad i ment no water in crank case. it was night so he could not pin point the oil leak. no water in oil but oil in the water.:argh:
|
Are you positive it's oil in there? Has it ever been flushed and replaced with fresh coolant?
Again, usually when headgaskets go on these, they will just push coolant out, not actually mix oil and coolant. |
I've seen oil coolers go out and cause oil to get into the coolant on the 6.0's
|
yea i just had that happen on my 03 f-550 work truck with the 6.0 with 127K and it was a bad intercooler.
|
u had an intercooler go out and get oil in the coolant overflow, think ur mistaken.
now back on subject, there is one of two things it could be, head gasket and oil cooler. and both are notorius for going out. being the truck is completely stock, i would say good possibility its the oil cooler. i could be wrong, but thats my guess. |
Oil cooler sounds a lot more likely to me as well.
Yeah I didn't follow the logic of oil and coolant mixing from a bad intercooler either...:humm: |
yea sorry i ment to put oil coiler i was talking aboout intercoolers as i was typing that sorry
|
No problem, thanks for the clarification.

Sounds like the oil cooler.. If you do the work yourself, I found a nice procedure on how to flush the cooling system of all of the milkshake!
