bad shake at idle
I'm working on a F450 2007 6.0 powerstroke.
it has an awful shake when Idling, and seems to lack take off power. no codes or check engine light, I checked the FICM today and it reads 48 volts cold and while cranking, checked the harness for the rubbing and changed the Fuel filters. Now one thing I did notice today when I changed the lower filter, the water in fuel sensor wire was un plugged, so I plugged it in and Im showing the water in fuel light now. is there a way to drain it? and do you think thats the only problem. the truck has 120,000 on it. seems to run fine on the highway but just has that awful shake while idling. Thanks. |
Nobody has any ideas?
I drained water out twice, the water in fuel indicator stayed on so I tore the whole filter housing apart and cleaned out a bunch of sludge. Truck still shakes bad at idle, but now the water in fuel message is gone. I ran a fresh tank of fuel through her and put some additive in as well. but still shakes. if an injector goes bad, doesn't it throw a code? |
Not always it wont. Sounds like you need to get a cylinder contribution test done and see if they're all working properly.
|
Cylinder contributuion test should give you an idea off what cylinder to go after.
|
maybe a bad injector. my truck was shaking at idle when it had a bad injector.
|
Well the SOB shut off on me this morning, and would not start again.
is there any way to check injectors with out a computer? |
not that i know of. i went to my local diesel shop and had them plug a scan tool up to it and shut the injectors down 1 by 1 until we got to number 5 or 6...maybe it was 7 and the truck didnt change tone or sound any weaker so we knew that injector want firing
|
100% bad injector it dont always throw a code check ur injectors
|
Cylinder contribution will tell you what is going on. Without you're just going to end up throwing unecessary parts at it.
