im lookin at the egr cooler...

ok..so im lookin at the egr cooler...n wat if i jus drill it out so water flows through nicley..n cap n weld both ends...wouldent that b an efecitve EGR delete?...i have an 05 ...i dont see a need for the up pipe exept for egr...will that create too much pressure on the turbo?:s:

What are you going to be drilling out? I wouldn't drill anything. Leave it as is, weld in some freeze plugs on each end and put it back in. It's the inexpensive way to do it. Make sure the freeze plug that attaches near the up-pipe is welded FULLY, all the way around, or it will fail eventually. If you actually sink it into the cooler about 1/4" you can fill it with weld and never worry about it failing. Won't hurt the turbo one bit, it will improve spool-up. Quite a few people have done it this way.

thanks...n the reason for drilling out the core is i was concerned about an air pocket in the tube ...i want good coolent flow..im gonna kick that around a lil befor i do any thing..but i hav limited funds..so were is the cheapest place to buy the gaskets for the oilcooler..every wer i read they tell me i should do that too...i havent had a problem w it..but cant aford to have anything else happen..down time on my truck means no food on the table..yet i cant afford hundreds of dollars to do something i can get by with for a while..caus iv been without my truck so long my pockets are almost empty...:argh:

If you don't have an issue now, I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's still a bit further into the motor to do the oil cooler. Personally, I would do your idea with the freeze plugs for your EGR block off. You can even unplug the EGR valve from the harness too, you may get a check engine light, but that's ok. I'd say you'd be better off investing in a coolant filter setup from www.dieselsite.com It's $119, and that will prevent your oil cooler from clogging anyways. The 6.0 blocks are sandcast and over time sand particles break off inside the coolant passages and will clog that oil cooler. Do the filter, and your inexpensive EGR delete and you should be good. (if you don't already have a problem).

Your EGR cooler is probably not clogged so there is no reason to drill it out. If you do delete the cooler you will throw a CEL.

ok..i did delete...no drilling..two stainless 1/4 disks...now the turbo wont pressur up...it did jus fine before the cooler tube problem.. dont know wat a "cel" is?....is that a code?...thanks for your help..should i un plug the egr or leave it?...

Do you have an exhaust leak?

Leave the valve plugged in or you fan clutch may not work correctly.

jesse757 09-15-2010 10:07 PM

ok my turbo is workin..cause i took the out -tube to it off at the inter coolr and it blows tremendous...but on the gauge it shows no pressure...i think the inter cooler is clogged or something..:humm: imm gonna check it out n tell ya wat happens..n no exaust leaks that i can tell..does anyone know where the turbo pressure is measured?:ouch: so close but yet so far away..:argh: checkd the inter cooler is not plugged either...

Take off all of your intercooler boots and inspect them with a fine tooth comb. If it was an exhaust leak you would hear it really loud.

Can you hear the turbo spooling? Maybe the gauge is just messed up? Is it an aftermarket gauge or are you going off the factory one? Why would a plugged up intercooler not allow boost? I could see it running warmer and with less power, but it would still build boost as long as it's not leaking. Is it the stock intercooler?

Re-reading your post, it sounds like you took the intercooler tubing off and rev'ed it up maybe? You wouldn't be building boost like that either... No matter what it feels like.

ha ha ha...no i went over every thing w a fine tooth comb...leak in the hose to the map sensor....my truck runs better than it ever did...thanks for all your help..will get that filter for coolent right away..and was thinking down the road ..i would jus get the aftermarket cooler..
