oil coolers?

are there any other places to purchase an improved oil cooler for the 6.0, other than the dealer, my local thief (dealer wants $400) for one. I think this is a little high in price. I've seen some on ebay but don't trust them..? seen prices anywhere from 100 to 350? I have all my parts together for the EGR delete, just needing an oil cooler so that I can start this project, I don't know if the aftermarket units are good reliable replacments, another side, the EGR delete that I got has the new up pipe in the kit, I was told the old WILL crack when it's blocked off?? my truck is a late 04, also I'm reading alot about trying to seal the Y pipe at the turbo, that this is a challenge to do correctly. why? and any tips on the re-install.

You can just buy the oil cooler rebuild kit. I believe Adam @ FCDP quoted me about $275, I THINK. You dont need the entire oil cooler.

The pipes are sometimes just a PITA to get re-aligned on the turbo since everything is solid mounted now with the new up-pipe. The old OEM had a flex section. Once the EGR cooler is removed there is no longer any support for the up-pipe and they will crack, this is why the new one is solid. Eric @ Innovative sells a different setup with a flex joint, but it's a much higher quality unit. You should be more than fine with the one in the kit. If you have issues, just loosen the up-pipe connections on the manifolds, connect the up-pipes to the turbo, then reconnect to the manifolds. Makes it easier, but more time consuming.

I believe you can update to the new style turbo oil drain tube as well. Double check that though, I can't remember what year they started that, but I want to say 06, so it would be a good time to do so since you'll have the turbo off anyways. I think it was only around $35.

I see that... it says new Ford oil cooler. Doesn't say it's a rebuild kit...

Thanks guys I checked the link, nice... I've left a note with BPD about the improved metal screen, I'm ass u me ing... that it comes with one but it never hurts to ask, nows the time to do it ALL while I'm in there, I had originally wanted to wrap my up pipes and turbo in an insulation wrap, so all of the exhaust stuff would be off anyways, but I had thought the OEM pipes might be to thin and break and crack from the heat, the solid up pipe liiks like a logical way to go, I wrapped the 4" turbo outlet pipe down about 3ft. when I installed it, no problems.....yet. but really I don't know if the turbo and up pipes would be ok if it all was wrapped. maybe too much heat for it ?

I would NOT wrap the stock up-pipes. I've cracked one of mine at about 50k miles with nothing more than a programmer and I still have my EGR cooler in place (it supports the up-pipe). The stock ones are just too thin. Check out the one's Eric @ Innovative has. They're pretty slick.

I sort of thought so, I've cracked header pipes on my hot rod once when I wrapped them, the heat becomes too much for the metal and it becomes brittle enought to crack from the harmonics of the exhaust pulses and the tension thats on the exhaust system... thats fine thats just one less thing for me to do when I'm in there. once I get the oil cooler I'm ready to go for the install of all my collection of 6.0 stuff correcting what the manufacture should have left off to begin with..
