06 warranty about to go bye bye

so heres the situation ive got just over 700 miles till my warranty is gone so i am wondering what all i need to try to address while the truck is under warranty and what all i need to do once it is out of warranty to make the truck the best that it can be. a list of what needs to be done and its importance would be great

i know the egr 100% has to go once its out of warranty is there anything else.

on a side note i dont have the money to spring for an sct yet so when i do my egr delete i found a guy that will program out the code but my question is when i put my superchip on the truck (or change the level on it) will that remove the code he wrote making the check engine light come back

any help will be amazing

thanks jeremy

I didn't know there was a way to get rid of the code without a custom tuned SCT. You can always try getting headstuds put in, but from what I have seen and experienced, the only good way to do it is yourself unless you are good friends with a tech and he will let you take the heads off to get machined.

You should be good though.

Try selling the superchip on ebay or craigslist. I've bought a few SCT X-cal2's for under $200 for some buddies on the forums. Then one custom tune is only $25-$60 depending on who you get it from.

I know those tunes exist, some of the EGR delete companies will give you a tune for free that is stock power and trans settings, but with the EGR code deleted, but you need the SCT programmer to load it up. That's what I dont understand. How are you going to get the tune into your truck without the SCT?

riddick01 05-03-2010 10:31 PM

idk havent asked...probly should though...lol...

Mdub707 05-03-2010 11:36 PM

You can't. That's my point. If there is some other way, I've never seen or heard of it, so please post back with your findings!:c:

he uses and sct that he orders from elite so i think im just gunna get him to get me the livewire with tunes...

next question.

with the sct and tunes what tunes do yall think would be safe with my 06 not having any headstuds ive heard 100hp range is about the max where you can be almost sure u wont have to worry

Mdub707 05-04-2010 03:26 PM

Hard to say, stock trucks blow head gaksets and others run extreme race tunes daily with no issues....?

A street tune is probably what you're looking for. Not too many guys using elite tunes though.

If you're getting the SCT you can get it from anywhere and it will have the EGR code removed already.

who yall use for tunes...innovative...anyone else to check out

I know River City Diesel is all about the tunes for the International 6.0's and 6.4's and from what i've heard they're pretty good tunes too, not cheap in my opinion, but you get what you pay for, and I'd get head studs asap, and on the machining of the heads i'd be cautious because i've been told that when you machine the heads on the 6.0 you can change the compression ratios and that wouldn't be a good thing, so i guess if you do decide to do studs take the heads to a machine shop and have them checked, if they're not good then maybe get new heads, i don't know if i'm wrong that's just what i've been told about the 6.0 heads

Mdub707 05-04-2010 08:21 PM

The 6.0 heads can be machined up towards .008", but anything over is a no-no.

I prefer Innovative tunes myself.

RCD is bigger with 6.4 stuff.

For a 6.0 I'd stick with Eric@Innovative, Doug@gogo, and I've used Vivian@quicktrick (formerly DJ's tuning).

i found a guy in houston area thats local and he writes em and he says he gives 1 mild tune free to test what he has the u pay 100 bucks for the other 2 if you like em so i think im gunna go with him. rode in his truck (exact same parts as mine minus the stacks) and the thing was smooth...lots of power but not so much id worry about breakin anything

Mdub707 05-04-2010 11:57 PM

It's not so much making the power, it's getting tunes that have good tranny tuning that is important. I'm sure there are tons of good tuners out there, but the one's I listed are the most popular. It's up to you. Innovative does a bundle of 3 tunes for $165 for comparison. My quick trick tunes was $50, and I believe Doug at GoGo does $50 tunes as well.

bobcat67 05-05-2010 08:28 PM

Yeah I would have to agree with the tranny tuning issue, anyone can make a tune with power it's the powertrain that generally suffers, take bullydog for example, they can make some big power numbers but their trans tuning is terrible and rips stuff up

riddick01 05-05-2010 09:37 PM

im with ya but what im sayin is that it was makin the lvl of power i want and the shifts where nice and firm. the truck felt really go all around...it didnt have jerking shifts where it felt like ridin in a stick and having the guy pop the clutch. all around it just felt right for what im lookin for so i think im gunna get one from him and see how i like it. and if anything with it just doesnt feel right(shifting to late or what have u) then im gunna delete it and get my tunes somewhere else

bobcat67 05-06-2010 12:37 AM

I agree with what you're doing entirely, support local if possible, it's something that has been lost in todays Internet world where people just buy stuff from whoever is the cheapest which I have been guilty of more than once
