'03 6.0L. cold start runs rough

hi. my 03 f550 with the 6.0 runs rough on cold start. it sounds like it is running on three cylinders for a few minutes. it will even do this in the summer. i have just recently gotten a code p02285, for icp sensor circuit low. it has never had codes but always ran rough. any suggestions would be appreciated.,

thanks.
Ron

How many miles on the truck? How long since your last oil change and fuel filter change?

When's the last time the truck was re-flashed? Do your injectors buzz before start up or after shut down.

You may just need a newer flash (inductive heating flash), or you could have injectors/FICM going out... hard to tell.

had all this done and put and icp sensor on it and it fix it

60,000 miles..fresh oil and filters... no buzzing before start up or after shutdown.

so the problems fixed?

rtaggs 02-04-2010 01:22 PM

not yet.. i was going to change the icp sensor until i saw where it was. now it will have to go to the dealer.

DieselDanBoy 02-04-2010 05:34 PM

if im not mistaken, if the icp sensor fails i think the ecu gives out a set pressure so it will stay running, sort of a limp home mode. it should still start and run though. :humm:

What's an "ICP"? I'm crosstraining in Ford for a job interview on Monday. :hellox:

BUBBAJON 02-12-2010 02:00 PM

Yeah, i would like to know what ICP is to. And curious of how often the trucks need to be re-flash.

Injector Control Pressure sensor, located behind and below the turbo

now really trucks shouldnt have to be re-flashed at all, any vehicle really doesnt need to be flashed unless something serious has gone wrong, unless its something like an engine wiring harness or an actual ecm problem. i seriously doubt you need a re-flashing for this

rtaggs 03-19-2010 09:13 AM

icp, egr, and icp fixed the problem so far...an expensive visit to the dealer

The 03's had older flashes where the injectors cycled after the truck was shut down, which made them hard to start sometimes, and it also put a lot of strain on the FICM. The newer flash was the inductive heat flash which made cold starts a lot easier. Ford would release new flashes every so often as they learned what the trucks liked and didn't like. The latest one actually cycles the veins on the turbo at idle to keep them from sticking.

You may wanna get your injectors checked. my 6.0 would start cold all the time so i took it to the ford place and i had two bad injectors. that may not be your problem but never no.:argh:
