There is nothing about a headgasket job that is cheap. Thats just a fact of life there. Next, it will be very difficult to do this job yourself unless you have a lift to pull the cab, or plan to pull the motor.
We use stock Ford gaskets with ARP studs, of course after our machine shop has given the heads a clean bill of health and a nice surface job.

Next, you will need several gasket kits from ford, to cover everything you took apart. If you don't have a means of testing the oil cooler, I HIGHLY recommend you replace it. Its not too expensive. Next, you need to test the EGR cooler to insure its not cracked.

We can help you out if you hit any snags.

:nice: Stick with the ford gaskets and have your heads checked out. Don't buy into fire ringed gaskets since so many people have had problems.

I don't believe you can purchase the Ford OEM head gaskets by themselves. More likely they come in an upper gasket kit, which includes the head bolts. This makes buying the gaskets expensive. I'd go with the black onyx set which you should be able to find for $200-$225.

You can also get an oil cooler rebuild kit instead of buying an entire new cooler. I would do that. Also do an EGR full delete while you've got it apart.

Browns diesel has always been the cheapest places for ARP's. I got mine last summer $385 shipped to my door.

Iam new to the site but was wondering what it means exactly to delete the EGR. What are the pros for doing this??
