What is the best oil?

Need some help. Will start changing my own oil soon. Have some questions.
1. How many miles between oil changes?
2. Whay type of oil / filter?

Thanks

Everything should be in the owners manual (if available), also what year truck are we talking?? Can run 5w-40 year round and I believe that's what they recommend. If cost is an issue, and you live in warm temps, you can run 15w-40, or if it get's cold in the winter, run 5w-40 then, 15w-40 in the summer/fall.

As far as filters, run: Fleetguard, Motorcraft, or Wix and I would change the oil every 5k with filter if Dino, or every 10k w/ oil filter ever 5k if running synthetic.

It really does depend on where you live and what the temperature is like. You should probably run the same as what your owners manual says and I could tell you but you didn't mention what type of truck you are changing the oil in.

Your very best bet for extended oil change is a synthetic. There are good brand synthetics out there. Amsoil, Mobil 1, and a few others are all good brands. I prefer Amsoil because you can extend oil changes up to a year or 25k miles, which ever comes first, which gives me a piece of mind and it saves me money in the long run. Its personal choice though and of course what you can afford. :c:

Thanks guys. The truck is 2003 Ford F250 4x4 crew cab, super duty- 90K .6.0. I live in Santa Cruz California. So I think the 15W-40 will work for me. I like the idea of 25K oil changes with Synthetic oil. I will most likely go with Amsoil oil and filter.

Appreciate the responses

Synthetic will work for you. Your truck has a few miles. If you go that route I would recommend either doing an engine flush first or you can switch right to synthetic, but run your first interval or two around OEM length(7-10k). The oil will be doing some cleaning. After that you're good for 15k. Beyond that I would be testing the oil just to make sure everything looks ok.
If you have more questions, be glad to help.

I recommend Mobil 1 or Valvoline Extreme Blue in 5w40 with a change interval of 7500 miles. DO NOT perform a engine flush it's not needed. Going to 15k isn't recommended due to the high oil shear characteristics of the 6.0L.

The claim of 25K for OIC is a sales pitch so don't believe the hype without using Blackstone analysis.

Mobil 1 synthetics have been proven to not even be a "true synthetic" oil. I will never use a Mobil 1 product, overpriced and not what its labeled as...

I have used Amsoil religiously in my truck. I also use the Amsoil oil filters. I usually change around 10k miles. I've gone as high as 16kmiles with good oil analysis reports to back it, but still didn't feel comfortable going that high, so I changed it.
