EGR system

I have cleaned my EGR valve, something i seem to have to do about once a month. I was told that i should have the whole system cleaned by having the intake manifold pulled and cleaned as well. I was also told this should be done about every 45,000 miles or so. Anyone have any opinions or experience with this? Is the a project that can be done at home or is it better to take it in to a professional?

thanks for any help offered

Mod the EGR up-pipe and use an SCT. Enjoy your new 6.0L!!

Just Delete the EGR System all together.

the easiest fix is to just unplug it, that is all the SCT does, electronicly, may get a code but it doesn't effect driveability, check out some other threads on egr options.Bob

Unplugging it really doesnt do much. To really keep from having headaches down the road just Delete It.

Unplugging the EGR valve will ensure you heat up the EGR cooler potentially causing a rupture.

Well thanks for that info., i sure won't be doing that.

ummm, no, the cooler will stay cooler when there is no exhaust gas flowing through it, mine was unplugged for 100k before I blocked it off on both ends, never had a problem. I do agree that deleting is the best but also the most cost, then blocking the the egr only cost about 150, then unplugging is the cheapest but not the best.:s:

You can just unplug the EGR valve connection and weld the valve shut. Will more than likely throw a code though. SCT shuts the EGR valve function off, but it can still open on its own at times.

As long as the cooler is on the truck it can fail.

I had mine unplugged for a long time. Now I blocked off the uppipe and jb welded the valve shut.
