New to me 6.0L, what first?

Ok, here goes the run down. I just purchased a used 2005 F250 Powerstroke, 61k miles. She runs great. I have been reading up on the common problems (EGR, head bolts).

The truck has a 4 yr/48000 mile warranty (aftermarket). Which covers all mechanical items- slightly beyond powertrain. The warranty company allows regular service shops (ASE certified is the only prerequisite) to perform the work. Lucky for me, a good friend of mine owns a shop, and will be doing all the work on the truck.

One catch, I live in CT. We have emissions. The truck just passed before purchase.

I dont plan on going crazy with mods. As she will be my daily driver, and weekend tow vehicle for my boat (under 7000lbs with trailer and gear). I was mainly thinking of exhaust, intake, tuner, upgrading to ARP head studs, and do something about the famed EGR.

Can I get away with an EGR delete, and a tuner, and go through emissions? Or will the emissions computer diagnostics pick up on the tuner and lack of EGR? My emissions test center is fairly easy going (my Stang with pre-axle dumps, and no cats passed 3 yrs in a row).

Are there any shops that offer parts along with tech service/info? I like to buy parts from people- not websites. I would be more than willing to purchase the parts at a slightly higher price, if that meant I was buying them from a competent and confident shop.

Thanks in advance! I appreciate all info- as long you dont tell me to buy a Dodge or a GM! These veins run strong with Ford blue!

PS- Im a newb to diesels, not to modifications and engines. I'm a 5 Star Certified Yamaha Outboard technician, and Ive built 9 sec. and 10 sec. Stangs.

Dear writer, Im a fellow ford owner. I have a 06 F-350 with a 6.0, If ur looking into programers, i would have to say that the EDGE is a really good one to go with, u can also change the settings and put it back to stock settings. It also has a turbo cool down timer setting, so after ur done pulling, it gives the truck time to cool down, it also has a EGT temp sensor so u know how hot ur running. i put a 5in bullydog exhaust on my truck, when its sitting and idealing, its not putting out much smoke, it only goes black when i get into it.

dont go with edge. Go with SCT. It programs your engine and transmission and can give you a lot more horsepower and torque but making it safe to do it. First tho i would do arp head studs and erg delete.

SCT. 99% of people on her will testify to that. But if you have warrenty, Dont worry about head studs. Wait till they puke the head gaskets and get off cheap.
