05 f350 blowing white smoke
 

My 05 f350 6.0l just started blowing white smoke while cold. After running for 20-30 min. down the road it stops. I did a pressure check on cooling system today. There seems to be no loss in pressure? Does this indicate head gascket or ERG valve or EGR cooler. If only the EGR or EGR cooler is this something I can attempt or should this be done by the pro's.

Are you loosing coolant? Mine acted the same , but I lost coolant . It turned out that the oil cooler was plugged causing a difference of temperature, which in turn blew the EGR cooler. fortunately it was covered under warranty . only $100. was told it would have 'bout $2300 otherwise.:c:

I have lost a small amount but i am monitoring closely. Will I do damage by driving with such a problem?

:pals::c:I drove mine quite a while. If it sucks down alot of coolant it is possible to hydrolock the engine. i.e. piston trying to come up and not being able to compress the coolant. The white smoke is the coolant actually burning. How many miles are on it ? The factory warranty should cover 5 years 100,000 mi..

72000 miles ,or so 183000 km Canada "eh". will call the dealer on Monday.
With the cold weather strating it could blow smoke all day.

Could the airfilter and intat have caused this????:c:

No, more likely your oil cooler is probably partialy blocked, which causes the EGR cooler to go. It could still be head gaskets, does the smoke quit once it warms up? Is there any coolant in your oil? Or oil in your coolant? Once the dealer looks at it , if they say its headgaskets, check with them to see if they would install ARP headstuds for you. It would be an additional cost upfront ('bout $500) ,but money well spent to avoid problems in the future when it's not covered by the warranty anymore:c:.

Dude 72000 miles is not 183,000km

72,000mi ~= 115000kms

Diesel engine warranty is good until 160,000kms

Or 5 years from original Warranty Start Date

Thank youI am calling the dealer thismorning. Will a stop leak product work as a quik fix until I am able the get it in for repair?

Thank's for the help guys. Dropped off for sevice today. Looks promising that its only the EGR cooler. Price tag $1200+ taxes. Keeping fingers crossed. I am just strarting to research a programer. It looks like I have narrowed ot down to the Edge or bully dog modles.

Should be $100 usd if covered by warranty unless its different in Canada.:humm:SCT is about the only programmer anyone recommends for the 6.0's. Also alot of people suggest tunes from Eric at Innovative Diesel.:U::c:

How do the tunes compair with Tadd at Elite?

I am not sure. I've never tried them. My advice is simply from what I've been told on here from numerous bombers. SCT with Eric extreme tune is the best for a 6.0.You could try them both and post your findings on here I'm sure there are lots of bombers have the same ???.:humm::c:

Most Elite users say the power is pretty good, but the transmission tuning isn't on par with Eric from Innovative.

Not covered under warrenty due 23000 KM over the 160000 KM warrenty. Dealership would not even prorate from the 160000 KM. Took truck the reputable fleet maintence shop. They tell me that they have done 4 this year. Is the Eric programer availible in Canada I have not herd of this unit before. I am strating to research>>>>

I've done four this MONTH lol :D

Take the truck to the dealer you bought it at/got your service done at, if you did do it there.

Ask for AWA.

I Have a 03 6.0l and in the morning mine blows quiet a bit of black smoke for about 2minutes and it will make it so that i cant see behind me and I think that it is just something that they do it also depends were it was made it might have a different heating system in it but sounds to me like your heads. If you are going to chip it I would go with a Quadzilla Xzillarator they are adjustable on the fly and go from 35hp to 160hp for the money i think they are the best and i wouldnt put head bolts in it go with studs and put a egr delete kit in it that by it self adds 40 horse.:ok1:
