More info on the need for head studs and the cost of having them installed outside the warranty.:pca1:

Going rate seems to be around $3500-$4000 including all parts and labor. As far as need, every truck's different. Some people are just fine w/o 'em. Others need 'em asap. Pretty much a crap-shoot. If you can, I'd go ahead and do them along with a full egr delete. Then you're done with it.

I agree with Imelmo in having the work done. Make sure whomever you choose to have the work done knows how to install and properly torque the studs. Been there and had them done wrong the first time. Man what a headache trying to figure out what went wrong. Headgaskets, heads surface checked and egr mod or delete and you should be good to go.

You had someone put them in wrong?

lol No, the guy that sold me the truck said it would need head studs at 100,000 miles and I had better consider getting the extended warranty. I asked what the cost of replacing the studs outside the warranty and he informed me that it would cost $5,000 to $7,000 to replace.I was just trying to get this done early before the warranty That still exist runs out.I may be to late though.I was going to replace with arp I hear they are the best.My cousin drives a GMC diesel and is a diesel mechanic and told me they are crazy it shouldn't cost near that much,He believes they are trying to rip me off:bat:.I dont know a lot about these things that is why I have guys like DB family to help me.

it cost me 2500 for the arp studs +labor... but my gaskets were not bad and i had them do the take one out replace and mve on to the next method...

Oh man...that was a mistake.

That never turns out good in the long run.

as an aside:

The studs are roughly $5-700 bucks. To change BOTH head gaskets as well as install the studs, as well as any other work that needs to be done while doing head gaskets is somewhere in the neighbourhood of 30 hours non-warranty time.

You'll also need to take into consideration you are going to need:

Intake gasket set, injector o-rings (8 sets), turbo mounting hardware, cylinder head gaskets, various other o-rings and copper sealing washers, oil cooler seals, etc, etc.

well its been holding strong for 20k+ miles a little more than 1 year and no signs of any problem... and there have been a lot of people that have went that route... with no problems... you dont need to get a complete head job if there are not any problems to begin with...

how do i get ford to put arp studs in under warranty because my truck only has 30k on it

You need to find a dealer tech that's "mod friendly".

If you're willing to travel, I will fix 'er up. LOL.
