4x4 locking hubs

04 f-250 was messing around the other day and tried to manually lock the hubs. It was very hard to turn by hand. I havnt been mud riding or anything like that, was just wondering of any comments about it Thanks.

the are seals in the lockouts for the knobs and they can become sticky if there not used, every now and then. i might suggest to cycle the hubs frequently, also not a bad idea to engage 4wd too.

yea the same thing happened to my 4x4 hubs. Now i just put it in 4x4 maybe once to twice a month and its fine now

You definately gotta lock em up once in a while at least my Pa didnt use his 4x4 in one of his trucks for almost 2yrs and when it came down to needing it they wouldnt work and we had to swap em out.

Sweet thanks for all the ideas, ill start manually locking the hubs everyso often to try to work them in, I do use the 4wd every once and a while(via the switch on the dash) and it seems to be working just fine. Thanks again

you would also be suprised how many people and yuppies dont know about the manual hub feature. worked on one the other day for 4wd inop it got stuck in a ditch. wrecker guy showed up and locked the hubs and drove it out. then guy brings truck to me with a faulty vacuum motor. the guy was asked if he ever uses it... nope
