Black Oil?

Ok 10 readers and no responses.

oil seemed thin and black. Not thick as the dyno oil I am used too. Havn't bought the truck yet motor seems co@# strong and I am more than a little concerned about the oil. They supposedly replaced the part.

If you want to know it does have a car fax that is clean. History that I know of the truck

1 owner since 2003 94k miles 2nd guy went to buy the truck. fuel injector went while they were working on the finance. Then they got the finance done this guy blows the turbo. I test drive it and oil is leaking.

My opinions 94k miles not bad they did the 100k mile service on the truck. Replaced all fuel injectors on the truck with Injectors that apparently have warranties? Turbo went south so it has a branspankin new turbo which supposedly has a warranty as well. Guy ran the shit out of the truck for 3 days didn't keep track of EGT and just kept his foot in it. It needed some turning up anyways and that ran the turbo hot. Injectors are supposed to be replaced at 100k anyways?

Does anyone have alot of miles on a 6.0?

the oil was thin?

did it smell different

Smelled pretty normal but it just didn't have the consistancy I expected. Especially if they just replaced the turbo I'd assume all the oils were changed up and other than the little bit of driving it should be fairly clean...my .02 I know but perhaps I a mspoiled from my own history of maintanance on my cars. Didn't smell burnt or have any sweet smell to it.

I have 182,500 on my 04 powerstroke, 5k ago i replaced all 8 injectors with larger ones that came with a one yr warrenty/unlimited milage cause 1 quit firing and the other was intermittant. Oiler cooler got replaced around 135-140K miles and the head gaskets around 165k miles. They lasted about 95K miles after i installed a banks sixgun/speedloader. As for the oil, if it does smell odd or have a funny texture they may have have put 5w-40 in instead of 15w-40. The oil in mine turns black as coal in about 50 miles. I hope this has helped you in some way.

Rub some of it between your fingers. If it stains them, got a soot issue and you should switch to a different brand of oil. If the oil doesn't stain them, your good to go.

run an OASIS report it will tell you anything that has ever been done to the truck as far as warranty work goes:U:

The 6 liters are very hard on the engine oil. I would spend the extra money for synthetic oil and purchase a fs-2500 bypass filter if you truck does alot of idling. It will save you alot of money down the road on injectors and hpop. I have an o7 6 liter and run amsoil in it with the fs-2500 and i know from oil samples that the oil in not breaking down as bad and there are alot less particles in the oil, mainly soot.

I have a FS2500 and used it for a good while expecting my oil to magically look new, it didn't. I like it cause it removes soot particles that our EGR's pump into our intake manifolds, cylinder heads, and combustion chambers. It was not until I deleted my EGR cooler that my oil stays "clean" and relatively clear.
