Loosing any coolant or is there any coolant in the oil?? Signs of blown head gaskets and or an oil cooler problem.

I was having the same lose of power in my 04. The EGR valve would stick open.
Have you ever pulled this valve and cleaned it? Todays fuel is total crap. Have you run any fuel conditioner? Do you idle for extended periods of time? Is this truck a daily driver? |
loss of power
Hey there,
Yeah, I had a sililar problem in my truck. I have an 03 model F-250 6.0L. The problem would be really noticeable on inclines. The problem was the EGR valve. You might want to replace it...thats what I did and it worked. Alot of people clean their EGR valves, but I think its better just to replace it. Good luck!!! |
These valves are a little costly.......cleaning only takes 30 minutes and $4 worth of solvent.
Be careful not to wreck the O-rings and vacuum the crap out of the bottom of the valve cavity. |
^^^ i agree if you can get away with cleaning it do that. you can go to ford and get new gasket and Orings for like $9( i also recomend doing that just incase you screw something up). also being that your truck has probly never had the egr taken out. a slide hammer will make your life a whole lot easier. it is definitly worth $80. 3 hits and that thing was out of there. the night before i pried, pulled, cussed, and yanked for an hour and got now where. :U:

yea i pulled my egr valve today and cleaned it i didnt think it looked all that bad but i will find out soon enough.
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- i also add the diesel slick fuel conditioner i dont know if it is a good one to use or not any other additives that might be better??? |
Ford doesn't reccomend cleaning the EGR valve. FWIW, I'd also buy the o-rings and junk at International, you'll save some cash. The EGR valves have come WAY down in price. The one for your truck will be a CX-2020, assuming the parts are numbered the same in US as they are in Canada. This does sound like an EGR issue, however, they usually smoke black from overfueling/lack of boost when the valve sticks. I HAVE seen them smoke white, but it's usually at that point where the thing will hardly even run.
Are you getting any codes? How many miles are on your truck? Powerstroke engine warranty is 100k miles and 5 years, just FYI. You might be on the edge of the time limit having an 05, depending on in-service date. Send me your VIN and I will give you the warranty start date. |
yea my warranty runs up in october and my check engine light isnt on and i havet read it for any codes yet but the truck only has 55k on it and yea when its blowin white the thing is just barely running still it was actually a little bit of a brownish smoke the last time it did it to me.

Take it in and get it looked at...all you'll likely need to pay is $100 deductible for the Diesel Engine Warranty.
