Boost at idle?

'04 6.0 liter can be running 1-3 PSI of boost at idle.

True or false?

Negitive

question:

what if the vanes on the turbo were to stick and make it become super restrictive? wouldn't this make it build boost? just a thought....

Still dont think so

i remember back in the day when the VGT/VVT/VTG (whichever one is it) technology got big someone was prototyping a mechanical VGT/VVT/VTG turbo for use on trucks that were wastegate controlled via boost not electronics. IIRC on a 12v using this mystery prototype turbo in drive at idle it was suppose to have 1-2 psi. in neutral nothing but under that load it would build boost.... this is stuff i read on the interweb so i don't know how true it is.....

This guy has some switch under his dash that makes the turbo do the obnoxious 6.0-liter constant-scream thing, so I assume that works by shrinking the VVT down really far. (They are VVT's, right?)

Somebody said it was building 3 PSI boost at idle; I said bullshit. The scream has more to do with turbine speed than boost, and there's just not enough energy at idle to build boost at idle, regardless of restriction.

But then I was thinking about it, and it doesn't really sound too far fetched. If the vanes were all the way closed, and lets say the air conditioner was on, and maybe if it was cold or the EGR was on, I might believe that it could build 3 PSI of boost.

Then I asked him, and his programmer is relaying a 1-2 PSI boost signal at idle. Which may just be inaccuracy in the OEM sender, I don't know.

So I figured I'd ask the experts to hopefully verify my honor. And somehow I figured I'd ask you guys too.

With the engine at 1200rpm on a fast idle switch, and the EGR valve closed as per PCM calibration to help avoid coking, some boost may be present at idle.

I did a remote start on an 06 today, and when it ramps up to the 1200 fast idle on the pto sense, the turbo does whistle pretty good.

my veins on my turbo got stuck and didnt change anything at an idle but i was hitting like 45psi on the boost gauge

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

but when the selinoid that controls the viens was fixed ford said it was running about 2psi at an idle but it didnt show on my gauge
