bad egr cooler
 

just got my truck back from the ford dealership. they said the cause of my exhaust steaming problem is that my egr cooler is bad. they also put on repair sheet that egr valve and oil cooler needs to be replaced they told me that the oil cooler is not out yet but will soon be. wanting to know if iam getting the run around with the oil cooler and egr valve, any info would be appreciated.

i had problems with overheating at 90,000 mi. was told the egr, oil cooler and oil pump was bad. had problems at 105,000 mi. staling and no power was told it was the egr and #7 injector. read in diesel power magazine the 6.0 is known to have problems with the egr .
cost 1,500 and still runs rough. dealership says its fine. of course.

I always have trouble with my egr. Had it replaced twice and than it goes the next day after several hours of consecutive driving. Ford told me the oil in the Airaid intake was clogging the valve and causing it to stick but it was broken the first time before I did any mods to the truck. I havent had any problems with oil pump or anything else.

I'm thinking I'll be getting an egr delete kit pretty soon.

wondering where i can get a delete kit and can i delete the egr cooler too.

Generally, when EGR coolers fail, it's because the oil cooler coolant flow gets restricted and causes the EGR cooler to melt. So they likely aren't giving you the runaround. If the ECT and EOT is more than 15 degrees apart, they want you to change the oil cooler.

Same issue on my 04 F-250 with 6.0L. Pulling uphill smells like anitfreeze in the cab. Dealer already replaced coolant reservoir with no luck. Now they say EGR cooler is probably bad and needs replaced, along with the oil cooler. I don't want to delete EGR cooler completely so putting in the beefed up model from ntshoptools.com but the question I have is "Is there an upgraded oil cooler model?" I see upgrade kits for the oil cooler but what are they upgrading? I took my truck last year to the same Ford dealer with the same problem and they didn't find an issue, but charged me the $100 deductible. Now that it is out of warranty they want $2300 to replace the EGR cooler and oil cooler, for the same issue of course. Any help would be great!!!

I just picked my '06 f-250 with 87000 up from dealer Friday . It had the same problem EGR cooler went out . Dealer explained that when the temps. differ more than 15 degrees it causes the EGR cooler to fail .This was caused by the oil cooler being plugged . However they didn't tell me what caused the oil cooler to plug . They changed oil cooler EGR cooler . Seems to be fine now . the power is back and it stopped blowing the white cloud out of the exhaust for now , I hope the factory parts will suffice the $2300 price tag scares me as I only have 13000 left on the warranty .
