Get A 6.0?
Ok, here is my delima; I am getting tired if paying way too much for my truck so I was thinking about selling/trading it. I've always likes the looks and mostly the sound if the 6.0. The main reason for losing my dodge would be to straight pipe the 6.0 to hear that awesom sounding turbo just something about it I love em. Ford exhaust sound awesom. And I like the room and size of the crew cab. Just a good looking truck. I know the 6.0 has a slightly bad rep but would I really be making a mistake switching? I have no problem with just a intake and exhaust if the power starts the problem with the engine? I'm just addicted to their sound! What yall think????

6.0's are known for poor fuel mileage.

well I'm barely getting 15mpg now. Can't be much lower can it?
|
Nah, make sure to get a 4 inch exhaust

Hmm

Could run down to a Ford dealer tomorrow and do some test driving. Give you a better feel of one.

I drove one right before I got my dodge. Drive nice. I only got a dodge cause my uncle worked there. Not a hardcore fan. I think each of the big 3's diesel's have goods and bad's. Im just tired of the crappy shifting, no room in back seat, and just ready for change.
|
I hear ya on the change of pace. Waiting until the 1/2 ton diesels come out, if they make it.
|
i didnt realy like the sounds of the 6slow myself.a guy i work with removed the cat first. made a little better sounding. then removed the muffler. it sounded worse to me. maybe just because i love the deep sound of any straight six diesel. all i could hear out of the truck was the air exiting the exhaust pipe. lost all the deepness to it. any how, after all the problems we have had at ranger with them, i wont ever have one myself. but most the problems i think they got em
|
I like the deep dodge sound, but hearing the turbo going at it sitting still just sounds awesom to me. And I like the v8's sound. Ford and chevy, but the ford turbo sound just makes my day

you ever thought of getting a mega cab dodge, you got all the room you'll ever need and the reliability of the cummins. Those 6.0's just scare me with all the problems they've had, if you get one get the newest one you can.
Better idea buy the ford then put a Cummins in it.:U: I do agree with you on the sound though, they sound awesome but ill keep my Cummins |
the only problem they have really fixed from the beginning is the high pressure system the turbos still have the same problem it lies in the fact that the fuel is to dirty and cabons up the vgt and there is still only 4 head bolts around each cylinder so even on a stock motor it will blow a head gasket just a matter of time. and the valve train is just not that great not built for longevity. im not saying there junk but do still have some gremlins o and the egr and coooler still big issues.

^^^ headstuds and deleting the egr greatly increase the life of the 6.0:U:

Upside to the 6.0 is that they can be fast with only a Single Programmer. But I have had 2 a 04 and a 05 and neither one of them got good fuel mileage.
|
I owned a 2003 6.0 right before i bought my cummins. I put 54,500 miles on it and dinn't have a problem. I averaged 22 on highway and 18 in town. Thats with a 4 inch down pipe into 6 inch stacks, SCT programmer on extreme and cold air intake. The truck would run 13.4 all day in a quarter mile. It was fast and i pushed it HARD. I loved it but not the payment. I just sold it for 10,800 how sad. With just 800 to 1000 bucks you can out run mustang Gt's easy. Right before i sold the truck i raced a 2005 srt4 and won by 3 truck lenghts. I miss it.
