Buy/Repair FICM?
 

ok....thanks to the search function, and a couple of youtube video's I have determined the hard start/no start while cold on my wifes truck is a FICM.

I have Torque app ann FICM Main Power was 47.5 before I tried to start, and dropped all the way to 27 when I cranked.

Now....what to do to fix it?

I see them online "rebuilt" for a few hundred bucks. I see the boards on Ebay for under $100...or repair/rebuild the one I have on Ebay for $80.

I would appreciate any input that you have...good sellers etc. Also any input on if I can repair one myself or not with the Ebay parts.

Ed over at FICMrepair.com does great work, I have yet to hear about one of his units failing (provided you keep up on your alt/batts). I will be getting one of his FICMs here soon because mine is about shot. As soon as ol' girl started showing symptoms and having hard starts, I was kicking myself in the @$$ for not taking care of the module when I had the top end torn down for HGs and studs. Since I can't afford to have my truck down again, I will be using Ed's exchange program where everything is paid up front including the return shipping label and then they ship out the module and you swap them out and send in your old one within 30 days. The only down time that your truck sees is however long it takes you to make the switch.

I'm not big with electronics so doing it myself was out of the question, and even though I have had luck with certain things from eBay in the past, a FICM isn't something I would want to take that risk with. I have no issue with paying $461 plus shipping (I'm going with the Premium level) when it's going to someone that has really made a name for themselves and comes with a 2 year warranty against defects and faulty workmanship. Not to mention it isn't just a resolder, but basically a rebuild with components that exceed OEM spec and eliminates known issues before they turn into problems.
