Thinking it is a fuel pump any suggestions
 

On my way home from work the other day I got into the throttle enough to down shift when the RPMs rose enough to shift but it wouldn't and started hesitating. as soon as i let off the throttle she died. I got to the side of the road she started up and drove fine a couple blocks later i wanted to see if it would do it agian same problem but this time it wouldn't restart. when i got to the side of the road i looked at my fuel pressure gauge and it was at zero. I got it home checked out my icp then pulled my top fuel filter and there was no fuel in there. when i crank it it sounds like it wants to start but wont. Pulled my fuel pressure sending unit and turned key on and still nothing. went bellow turned key on and you can hear the fuel pump in the rails but it sounds pretty bad. also pulled my lower filter and it was still like new. both filters just changed not even 200 mi ago along with #8 fuel injector, ficm power circuit board, fuel check valve in the top fuel filter, and y pipe. ran great for about two weeks. Is there a good way to check the fuel pump? Thanks in advance.

went out this am and checked the voltage it look to be about 4.65 volts?

sounds low, should be around battery voltage 12.5 volts or so.

Here are some schematics of the fuel system for a 2005 F350 super duty it looks like the fuel pump relay is hooked to battery voltage so you should have at least 12 volts at the pump. also check your battery voltages and look for broken wires dirty ground connection ect.

Thanks for those Jet A Fuel. I put the batteries on the charger this A.M. I am looking at the schematics now looks like i have some tracing to do.

I put thee batteries on the charger and tested at the pump again and it was about 11.5. I hooked up to a scan gauge looked at the sync, ficm logic power, icp, ipr. all looked good but i am not bringing up ficm logic power. when i crank it only takes about 3 seconds before it trys to start. I am wondering if it is the ficm power board, but would it try to start if it was that?

It may be something as simple as a bad battery. If voltage on the system is less than 12 volts some PCB's may not even energize because of a low voltage. I would check each battery individually and see if you have at least 12.5 volts in them. Under cranking load a weak battery can drag a good battery down.

Jet A Thanks for all your help. i started investigating and was comparing my fuel filter on the rail and realized that they was way different. I put the motorcraft filter in put it all back together and it was working good. As far as the volts it must have been because of low batteries i had them on float charger all weekend and now she seems to be running fine. Thanks again for all you input.
