2005 F350 6.0 powerstroke

Hey all,
New to here and am looking at buying a 05 F350. It has the 6.0 engine and I've heard it has some problems. What do I need to ask the owner to make sure the engine is in good shape? Anything to look for specifically?

Thanks for the Help

If Ya get it, buy yourself a HUGE bottle of aspirin for all the headaches and pains in the ass your gonna get. If I were you, I would run as far from it as possible. I, myself, am speaking from experience. Also a good friend of mine bought an 05 PSD 4x4 last year (March 2014). It only had 86k on the odo. Hell of a deal. Its a very very nice truck, however, it quit running right about mid-August. And its still not running. He's currently taking diesel mech. classes at Western Tech College and.....as you might guess, his truck is his project.

The 6.0 was problematic from day one. BUT, when those 6.0's run right, or when you can get it to run right, It'll run like a scalded ape, but it takes quite a chunk of change and "know-how" to get it there. If youre hell bent on a ford PSD, search for the 7.3 PSD. Theyre a hell of alot more reliable. Im in the market for one myself, but Im still keepin my Dodge CTD dually.

OR, you can look into Dodge CTD.

Every manufacturer has trucks that break. If the truck you are looking at has been properly cared for it could be a great deal because of people like Bigg Redd who bad mouth them. There are plenty of 6.0 with a lot of miles going strong! Mine has 230,000 and will go for another 230,000. Do your homework on the web. If you are handy you can do repairs and maintenance yourself and have a great truck.

I agree every manufacturer has trucks with weak points..but the 6.0 and 6.4 take this to a whole nother level. That being said you can get very good deals on them just don't expect to go very long with taking some green from your wallet. But all in all its a good engine if you leave it stock and put big dog cylinder heads on run synthetic oil n due the updates to oil standpipes. I would never recommend one to a first time diesel owner as it would scare them back to gassers.

I agree with you on that all trucks break. For me its not bad mouthing sunshine! Its bad experiences with the 6.0 shit engine. 5 blown head gaskets, 3 EGR coolers, and a turbo all within 19 months of ownership of a brand new truck. Thank God it was under warranty. Mine was a totally stock f350 PSD 4x4. It became more of a liability to me and my family's safety, having always broken down on the freeway. It always broke down as I towed my 7200 lb travel trailer. Thats nothing for a diesel. Lemon Law got me out of that. Its a real shame. I have many friends that own 6.0 PSD of various years, and all have had MAJOR issues with that engine, and have spent butt-loads of money to repair them.
AJ Im quite sure if you had experienced what I have, you would not look favorably toward the 6.0 PSD. That was the BIGGEST let-down Ford has ever bestowed upon me. I Love ford's superduty trucks. Probably the best looking on the road, new and old. If my PSD wasnt so probematic, I would no doubt still have it.
I bought my Dodge CTD out of necessity, not for looks. In fact Ive never been a fan of Dodge, but mine has been the most dependable and reliable truck ive ever owned, bar none. Ive owned it for over 7 years with not a single mechanical breakdown, outside of a shifter cable that failed. Im still in the market for another ford PSD, but this time its gonna be an older model with the 7.3. or a Fummins. Cheers:c:
