No oil in filter housing

My 2005 f350 6.0 has been running great for the longest time and it started right after school. I went to go start up my truck and it just died the first time it said low oil pressure after that no codes or anything but truck wont start. I got it towed back home and it has oil and all but I realized when I went to check the oil filter it is bone dry. I dont know what it could be

Could be low pressure oil pump. 05 had some bad pumps.

I herd that it could be that im going to try first to change the low oil pressure regulator in case its stuck is there anyway to test to figure out if it is the lpop or not.

when you pull the filter all the oil drains out through a valve in the bottom of the housing so to test for low pressure oil you have to hold down the "drain back valve" with a screw driver or just use a filter without the cap held down in the housing and then have someone crank it over to see if the housing fills with oil.

Thanks for all yalls advice so if I do that and oil comes thru the housing does that mean lpop is bad or means lpop is good

If the housing fills up then low pressure is good. try to start it when it is cooled off, if it starts then it is going to be a High Pressure oil leak, most likely the STC fitting on the High Pressure pump, it is also good to change the stand pipes and dummy plugs at the same time to eliminate future leaks. A hot no start is almost always a high pressure leak.

I held it for about 25-30 sec and nothing at all. I got the oil filter from autozone and its been good for about 5000 miles so I dont think that could be the case. Can a bad low oil pressure regulator cause the no oil to the filter housing? Or its just the lpop problem

bobfbigman 08-31-2014 02:07 PM

yes the regulator could cause this,

Could always hope so for that. Alot cheaper ill let u know tomorrow what happens. Thanks again

Well I pulled the oil pressure relief valve the spring shot out is it supposed to have alot of pressure to it? I ordered a new valve assy to replace it. I will get it from ford today even if it was the valve or diff ppl call it regulator how do u get the truck to crank back up again and how long does it take
