Accidently added Gasoline to Ford F250 6.0

Accidently added Gasoline to Ford F250 6.0 :argh:

Hello All. I mistakenly added gasoline to my 6.0l, I was filling up at the station and the pump handle were all black even the diesel one. I mistakenly grabbed the handle on the far left side rather than far right side. Either way I should have read the pump handle.

At this point I began to fill up the truck which was sitting at a ¼ tank. About 10 gallons in I noticed I was pumping unleaded into my truck. I immediately stopped filling it and drove out the gas station roughly 1 mile to a dirt parking lot. The truck ran fine to the parking lot. I got out of the truck siphoned the tank. Bought two new fuel filters and a diesel jug at autozone. I replaced the filters and filled the truck up with 10 gallons of diesel.

At this point I go to start the truck and the damn fuel filter cap is leaking, why it’s plastic is beyond me. So I go to Autozone to buy a new one and they are out of stock.

At this point I have

Siphoned gas

Replaced fuel filters

Filled up truck with 10 gallons of diesel

Primed diesel

So while I wait for the new filter cap. I was wondering, how much damage I could have done to my truck?

Finally got home. Put the new fuel cap on. Primed and fired up. Seems to be running like a kitten. Went down to the gas station and filled it up with diesel. So if hopefully any remnants of gas are mixed with diesel. I will update in a few days.

You should be fine now if you went through all that.

I hope so. Just a scary situation. I’m purchasing a Green fuel cap and making sure I grab a green handle at the pump. This gas station I went to had all black handles with all black buttons. Here in New Mexico I think they are required to be green? Going to pay more attention next time either way.

I was able to get it on the highway yesterday and hit 60mphs. No fluctuation in power or loss in power. Going to try and get it on the freeway and hit 80-90mphs.

If anyone ever runs into this situation or has a friend/ wife who pumps up unleaded in a diesel. Try to park the truck immediately out of the way and siphon the gas out, add diesel, change filters and hopefully be in the clear.

Over the winter when I travel to NC from KCMO, not sure what state it was but pulled up to the pump. Grab the green handle to fuel up and noticed that the green handle said unleaded gasoline and the black handle next to it said diesel. WTF! Why would they have the colors reversed! Looked around and all the pumps where like that. I encountered that a few times since. Can't always count on the handle being green when it should be.
