whistle problem maybe??

okay so I have a 03 F350 6.0 dually. it has a 10 blade turbo with a Wicked wheel (just cleaned), egr delete and straight 4" exhaust turbo back....

I am also running a H&S programmer, sinister coolant filter and blue spring conversion, zoodad mod, and AIRAID high flow air filter, just did oil change (w/ 2 bottle of reand fuel and oil filters, boost and egt gauges.

so my issue is I have heard other trucks and have heard people talk about the infamous 03 10 blade whistle.. my truck makes 30psi of boost very fast with no lag or hesitation. it runs like a raped ape. my buddy has a 06 and cant believe how fast my truck is. my buddy said he thought It was the ebt sensor..put a new one on and cleaned the tube with
no change..

but I have NO turbo whistle, none while idling and a little when I accelerate hard. when I shut it down it sounds like a siren for about 15-20 seconds.

I don't need a whistle I am just worried that its a indication of something else wrong and would like to correct it if there is.

this weekend I am doing head studs, head gaskets and glow plugs so if anyone has any ideas I would like to try them while I have everything torn apart!!

thanks in advance!!

I also checked the FICM today and it was 49.2 on and starting with no drop.

does anyone have any suggestions?? also I got a 2nd 03 10 blade and installed it and it still made the same boost and ran great but no whistle, so I know its not the turbo???

I am at a loss, help..

When was last time u cleaned vanes in turbo? May have some soot in there but if it's running as good as you describe it doesn't sound like a problem. Is your turbo housing modified? Is your straight pipe really loud? I have stock turbo and people think its a highly modified truck, sounds like a jet taking off when I step on it .

X2 on cleaning the exhaust turbine vanes. Been there done that......too many times. I certainly dont miss it.

sorry it took so long to reply, I am on a loaner phone and its not a smart phone! sucks!!

I just cleaned the whole turbo inside and out less than 2 weeks ago when I put the wicked wheel in it. the vanes are free and lightly anti seized and it changed nothing... the reason I don't think its a turbo problem is because while I was doing the wheel and cleaning it I put another 03 10 blade in it and still there was no whistle..

yeah my truck is really loud with the exhaust on it.

tonight when driving around if I got on it really hard you could hear a faint whistle to it but nothing really noticeable. my buddy has a 03 10 blade on his truck and I know it sounds like a jet and that's why I am wondering what on my engine could be wrong.

I bet loud enough to drown whistle ?

that's a theory I might have to look into...but my buddys you can hear plain as day with the 4" straight pipe...

I had the same problem but not any of your mods. I've got an 04 6.0. I was getting some normal turbo whistle but occasionaly I would get a whistle that sounded like a tea kettle or the sort. It would make a siren sound like yours and for the longest time I thought I had turbo problems. The fix was really really simple and I'm unsure as to whether or not it's the case with your truck. My degas cap was releasing too much pressure and causing the whistling. Changed the cap, and the whistling reduced to only occasionally. When I replaced the thermostat, I noticed that the air cooler hose/pipe/whatever was a little bit loose and noticed that there was a little oil sprayed around where it connected. Tightened up the pipe and haven't heard the whistle since. Just a suggestion based on something that I did. Dunno if it'll fix it but I mean, it couldn't hurt.

thank you for the suggestion.. but the problem that I am having is that I have no turbo whistle from the exhaust.

thanks again though!

so today I decided to do some investigating and I took the exhaust off at the downpipe and holy crap I have a whistle now! I don't know if the exhaust being so long was drowning It out or the fact that the guy before me connected about 15 different mismatched pieces of pipe to make the exhaust or what. it was a completely gutted exhaust just very poorly made and some horrible welds!

I am going order an actual 4 or 5 inch complete exhaust system and see if I can maintain the whistle.
