2006 6.0 no start no smoke
Seriously emergency in the military have A 06 turbo diesel was running fine until A week ago truck acted sluggish and when I stomped on the gas little black smoke came out so pulled in to A truck stop as soon as I hit the brakes truck died and wont start again. Has nothing coming out the pipe when try to start it. Did see that the oil filter chamber does not fill up with oil when try to start PLEASE HELP!!!!!
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Also the truck has 115K miles check engine light is not on and the truck is 400 miles away I am committed to this truck so willing to do what it takes |
If oil. Or filling up when cranking you probably lost low pressure oil pump. I would check for oil pressure.
Ok is that something I can do myself also had code ran today and this is what truck showed
P0606 P0562 P2285 P2290 if that helps I am lost :argh: |
Sounds like low pressure pump to me too. The lp pump feed the resivor that feeds the hpop wich fires the injectors. Sounds like the hpop resivor ran out of oil and the injectors wont fire.Try checking the hpop resivor.
Ok what is the best way to do that simply poor oil into the oil filter chamber and try and crank it or what?
Check the level on the hpop resivor. Ive never messed with a 6.0 hpop but the 7.3 and the 6.0 are fired the same way. Do a search on the internet on how to check 6.0 high pressure oil pump resivor. If it is empty then i would heavily suspect the low pressure oil pump is out. Check the crank case oil level while your at it Just for laughs.
I will anything else to look at while I'm in there?
Just look for anything that dosent look normal. Other than that just make shure you check the hpop resivor. Good luck by the way. Breakin down sucks. Been on the side of the road quite a few times myself.
Yahoo worst case scenario it's my only vehicle and I need it if it is the oil pump is there anything that could be messed up as A result?
The only way to really know is to get in it and see. You need a good mechanic you would trust completely since it's critical to get everything done right. Do it right and u probably never touch it again.
That's great news
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- So tried to start truck today and I am getting no base oil pressure is that A sign of A bad LOO or something worse? |
First thing I would do is drain the oil and run a magnet through it to see what type and how much steel debris is in it. The most likely cause of an LPOP failure is something going through it. Most mechanics will remove front cover to inspect it. By draining the oil you can find out if you lost a lifter or something. It can save some labor charges.
if it is the lpop can I change myself or does it have 2 be a mechanic job? and if it is the lpop what kinda money am I looking at for parts or A kit?
Since I don't know your experience or abilities, it's hard to say if you can do it yourself. My guess would be, yes, if you are on the forum BUT if debris went through your LPOP that means something else came apart which could mean an engine replacement. Cross your fingers!
that is no joke I am going to take the cover off in the next couple of days and drain the oil at the same time so lets hope for the best I will update on my findings
