Will tuner with EGR delete function also take care of EGR cooler?
 

2004 F250 Super Duty 6.0 Diesel stock, original owner. Have had several issues over years many of which I now find out were due to original design flaws associated with EGR, etc. Currently truck is experiencing problems when running at cruise speed(55-65 mph). It will "sputter" once or twice and then looses power. No apparent problems with idle, 0-50ish, or speed in excess of 65. From what I have read, it sounds like an EGR problem yet again. I will say up front I know nothing about mechanical stuff on vehicle and am trying to minimize the expense of yet another repair. I have been told by a friend that purchasing a tuner with the EGR delete option will eliminate the problem. My question here is will the
SCT SF3 Power Flash Ford Programmer / Tuner 3015 Pre-Loaded with DYNO Tunes take care of all of the components related to the EGR? I guess what I want to know is, if I buy the turner and run the software, do I have to do anything else? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I really don't have any resources that I feel are competent to answer these questions and I can't afford to through good money away!! Thanks in advance for you advice!!!

The unfortunate answer is NO. the main cause of EGR cooler failures is actually due to clogged oil coolers, the coolant flows through the oil cooler before it goes through the EGR cooler. The coolant passages in the oil cooler get clogged by sand/ these blocks are "sand cast" and some residue is left and gets in coolant stream, so when the coolant passages in the oil cooler get clogged it limits how much coolant can get to the EGR cooler and then the limited coolant in the EGR cooler can steam and cause it to rupture. By simply unplugging, or programming out, the EGR valve it will help but it is still not fully safe.,,,, in sort the best thing to do with any 6.0 is to rebuild the oil cooler, fully delete the EGR cooler then add a coolant filter to keep the oil cooler from clogging again, and if you have over 50k on your truck then I would bet the oil cooler is mostly or fully plugged up.
