2006 F350 6.0 problem
 

Hey guys, I'm having an issue with my 2006 F350 6.0 diesel 4x4. I'll try and describe the problem as best I can, it's driving me nuts! Abut a week or two ago I went to to back out of the driveway and the truck just shut right off, I started it back up, backed up again and shut off again, third time when I turned ignition on to restart I noticed the gauge needles were shaking but it started up and away I went. It been getting worse an more embarrassing so I took all battery connections off and cleaned to like new( by the way the batteries are a month old) put everything back on an get in truck, turn key, nothing no lights on dash or anything so I try a few times and finally I get dash lights and truck starts. Today same thing but at first no dash lights then all of a sudden they come on and flash on and off a few times, so I cycled key a few times until I could start it. What the hell could this possibly be?? Bad ignition switch, Bad ground?? Any help would be awesome, thanks guys. I also check for possible codes, none shown.

Seems you have a really bad connection , possibly where harness connects to firewall or along your battery cables.

do you have an after market radio in it? i know that in chevys if you put an aftermarket radio in them and you dont do it right it will cause problems with dash lights not wanting to come on or in severe cases headlights have gone out on people driving at night. the reason being is chevy designed the vehicles so that everything electronic runs through the radio making it kind of like a brain for the vehicle they started doing it i think in 2004 and i had heard ford and dodge eventually followed suit i just dont know when. i havent heard of any stories with aftermarket radios causing the vehicles to die but i dont guess it would be out of the realm of possibility anyway just thought i would share that

i had something like that happen to me i got new batteries and a few weeks later the sh!t happen again i found out later that it was the alternator i didnt even get a code.
the test i did was start the truck when its running disconnect the positive terminals on the batteries the alternator should power everything when the engine is running without the batteries if your engine shuts off it means the alternator is not putting out enough power

With modern electronics I wouldn't even think of disconnecting batteries on a running vehicle.,you risk a voltage spike through a computer or diodes and more problems. Just get a volt meter and check voltages. . Avg battery has 12- 12.5 volts when charged at rest. When vehicle is running you should see 13.5 to 14.5 volts at battery. Get a cheap meter and save yourself some headaches
