Dual Alt, Quad Batt

I was given a HUGE inverter (3000W cont/6000W peak) and want to make some changes to the truck now. I'd like to add 2 more batteries (CAT 880A) that have the primary purpose of powering the inverter. In addition, I will be adding a second alternator and transferring the batteries to the bed (all 4 under the toolbox). Is there anything specific that I need to be aware of (other than making sure they're wired in parallel with 00 wire)?

A single-alt might be a better idea to keep the engine bay uncluttered. (yea..right?) Something in the link below could provide the truck and spare batteries. The second link is to a site that deals in inverter equipment. They could provide better guidance about wire size and length. You should consider some sort of battery isolator.

Try the DC Power site before u get alternator. They offer 300 amp alts designed for emergency vehicles ! They are reliable and fit in factory location. Clean, easy, practical!

I have dual alternator with a third battery. I used a "latching solenoid" to seperate the third battery. I run my inverter off the third battery "unlatched " from the system. Also with the latching relay I can jumpstart myself if needed!

I have a similar set up, but with two extra batteries (4 total). I installed the two extra batteries on the passenger side frame rail using two E-series battery boxes. I used 2/0 wire and 300A fuses. The battery isolator I used is a mosfet type (solid state) and will allow jump starting as lenzhotrod's does. My isolator is from Perfect Switch, it is relatively small, not a lot of current leakage and does not need an immense heat sink. My inverter is a 2500W sine wave inverter. I installed a "momentary-on" switch that allows current to flow in "reverse" through the isolator to provide the "jump start" current to the truck. My alternator is a single 250A DCPower unit.
