04 Powerstroke 6.0L running rough P0278 code

My truck started running rough out of the blue so I hooked up the AE and ran codes. It showed I was having a misfire in cylinder 6 and pulling code P0278 I replaced the injector with a Ford reman injector but I am still pulling the P0278. The truck was running fine until the truck got warm then it would run rough. This morning I started it and white smoke came pouring out and it ran terrible. Does anyone have any ideas what to do?:dang:

Check the copper seal and injector seals

I pulled all the injectors and cleaned them. I also replaced one injector and still nothing it runs like crap and now it's coding 0603 which had written out next to it keep alive mode. The codes we're pulled using auto enginuity.

I would check voltages on FICM.
Then I'd look for any backpressure leaks from injectors. Open up your fuel filter next to oil filter housing and crank up the engine (do not start). Check for any bubbles leaking up tfuel filter.
Also I would check for oil pressure leaks. By use 1/4 male flare, hooking to air compressor to ICP sensor port, and listen for leaking sound.

Let me know if you get anything.

Did you check your injector harness ? Look where it passes thru rocker cover and any bends. Make sure you have good connections on injectors too. Also look at the cup injector sits in for cracks.

I took my water seperator apart and cleaned it up. I took the wiring harness off the truck and fixed bare wires rewrapped with heat shield. FICM is putting out 48 volts nothing is making since. Do I need to replace my ECM?

Did you check for bubbles in fuel filter when you cranking? And air pressure test on ICP port for oil leak?

Next step would be checking at ICP and IPR sensor.

P0603 shows when you have your battery disconnected or tuner and it resets.

Well I just spoke to the owner of TDI and family friends and a great Powerstroke mechanic he said it sounds like my cam is bad and needs to be replaced. They normally just put a short block in its faster and cheaper. Terrible birthday gift if Ido say so myself. :scare2:

I'm told you have to pull engine to get cam out but it is servicable and can be replaced with new cam and lifters. The rest of the bottom end is usually pretty stout so if you are mechanically inclined and can do it yourself, you may be able to save a few bucks.

Yes it is serviceable but the motor has to be pulled because it comes out from the back of the engine. I will be doing the work and recording it since there are a lot of tear down videos but I haven't found a video specifically for cam replacement. It is going to be expensive I'm not looking forward to it.
