Slow turbo?!

In my 03' f250 the turbo seems to take longer to kick in than it should. It does this no matter how long you have been driving it. Does anyone know what could fix this?

Sometimes the vgt vanes get rusty or sticky . .

Get the turbine side cleaned up and check operation.

Get it cleaned up and see if that helps. Also check the exhaust for oil that will be a sign if you need to replace it

Old post I know, but I've been gone for awhile.

If cleaning the turbo doesn't help, my 2003 was hella sluggish, you could try these and get some snap out of it guaranteed:
*SCT tuner with SRL tune from Gearheads
*EGR cooler delete (you may need the valve, I do)
*Innovative Diesel FICM tuner, mid setting
*Mad Turbo Works billet compressor wheel.

I've done all of these to mine and the throttle response is really good! :rocking:

I have a 2004 "X" with a Banks Econo-Minder controller that requires a sensor be installed in the exhaust manifold by drilling an tapping a 1/2 inch hole to install the sensor. It was unplugged for a while the Banks was out. That 1/2 inch hole let enough exhaust pressure out to really slow down the turbo. The turbo lag was so bad it wouldn't kick in until about 1500rpm.

Put a plug in the hole and the turbo came back to life. So I would also check for an exhaust leak or some sort of low exhaust pressure.

Hope it helps,
JJ

My up pipe wasnt all the way sealed and i lost alot of pressure which caused me some problems, id say check for leaks and clean the turbo out

If you have made any necessary repairs and have good running truck just want it to be more responsive, Try a ficm tune. I got. PHP 40 hp ficm tune from Ed at ficm repair.com and what a difference! Turbo lites instantly and truck runs so good my gf gets mad. ( I like to be first!). there are other good ways to get the tune on here, I'm just recommending Ed, he has great service and made mine more fun! Any mods depend on truck working properly!
