I've done some looking at the Cummins swaps and the price on the kits alone are around 2500-3000 depending on what you've got and then it's at least another 2000-3000 to get an engine I wouldn't mind putting a Cummins in mine but I'm going to wait and see if I can't get 300k outta my 6.0 first just my two cents

Studs are cheaper.

RanchhandTCR 07-06-2013 08:05 PM

head gasket and studs are much cheaper. Also depending on where you live you may not be able to put a 12 valve cummins in because of the emissions laws. Or if you have emissions = No 12 valve.

Josh Chretien 07-06-2013 09:18 PM

im in bc so its all good for the emissions but i can get a 1994 12v motor with only 18000 km on it since new not rebuilt but new for 2500 thats why im thinking about it ?

HeavyAssault 07-07-2013 05:41 AM

Instead of convincing us that a 12V swap is cheaper when we all say get studs, go do the swap and be happy.

Josh Chretien 07-07-2013 01:06 PM

im not trying to convince you im just putting all my options on the table so you guys can see what im dueling with i do like the 6.0 alot they rip this is my 4th one but i just dont want to stud it and have more problems

Adrenaline junkie 07-08-2013 05:51 AM

If you are looking for reliable and cost effective, fix your 6.0. Do the upgrades for egr delete and studs and make sure before you get in there you don't have other issues. If you are good at fabricating and modding and like the fummins idea and have deep pockets, try the cummins. I have seen many swaps and most were not really all it's cracked up to be! Lotta work and issues till u get em right! Make sure you maintain your truck whatever you decide, a lot of issues originate from poor maintenance or poorly thought out mods. You didnt say why your headgaskets failed. Read other posts here and see what works, these guys have probably tried or saw the things that will work and more important what doesn't.

i have had the truck for about 10000 km it had 170000 km on it when i got it the guy before me i think maintained it well since i got it i have done the egr delete hpop stc fix a new oil cooler with screen a got a edge just for the screen not tuneing to watch my eot and ect and i have a egt gauge i also have a fixed ficm and i change the oil ever 5000 km or less i have a new thermos state in it and rad cap i dont drive it that hard thats why im a little up set with the work i have done to it in the 10000 km to have head gasket blow so soon im not sure why it blow ive never had the egt over 900 and the egt and eot apart by much at all but thanks alot for the advice man i will look in to it
