Has anyone heard this and is it true??
 
I was talking to a fellow Powerstroke owner and we got on the topic of head gasket problems. He said he was going to have ARP head studs installed ,but was told that the real reason the 6.oL blow head gaskets under pressure is because the radiator cap is of the wrong pressure for modified trucks. I have never heard this before and he said it like he knew what he was talking about. He said just go to Auto Zone and get their radiator cap and you'll have no problems. Got me wondering..... I just can't believe that a 8.00 cap can fix head gasket issues , but I could be wrong too. Has anyone heard of this rumor?

Rumor only in his mind. The cap is only a solution IF your OEM cap has failed. If you pop HG it doesn't matter what cap you use they are done.

Besides if the cap fails pressure is released. HOW would loosing pressure pop HGs??

That there makes a lot more sense than what he was saying. I know enough about diesels to get myself in trouble..LOL I sometimes wondering if people aren't testing me sometimes. Thanks:tu:

I'm not an expert so I guess anything could happen. For the reality check I'm certain I've never came across anyone experiencing HG issues directly due to the cap.

The main reason stock trucks pop head gaskets is a clogged oil cooler that restricts coolant to the EGR cooler and the EGR cooler generates steam that gets into the coolant system and can cause extreme hot spots around combustion chambers causing the head gaskets to fail.

I believe what the rumor is about is that the cap has a small spring on the valve is weak and eventually won't allow the cooling system to pressurize like it should and the boiling point of your coolant is much less if it isn't pressurized ford even sells a cap with a bigger spring I don't believe it solves all hg issues but 8 bucks for something that might provide alittle more peace of mind is about all I see it doing

The degas bottle cap and HGs are two separate issues that have their own individual solutions.
