Can I drive normally with a bad EGR valve?

A few weeks ago when my truck was getting serviced the mechanic read a code saying my EGR valve was bad. He decided to clean it off and put new o-rings on it as well as unplugging it. He told me I could be able to drive with the bad valve although I could lag on power at times. I asked him if it could cause more damage he said it shouldn't now we have made a temporary fix to it and unplugged the system.

Can anyone please give me feedback to what I should do?

A lot of people just unplug. Should be fine but will have code stored in memory for egr. Newer trucks throw cel on dash but our older ones usually don't, depending on build date.

It depends on what's wrong with the EGR valve.
If it won't open, yes you can drive normally.
If it won't close, no, no you can't drive normally....meaning, it will idle rough, it won't have power and it will likely smoke.

I had the same issue, I cleaned mine and it opens and closes freely but still throwing the code, I unplugged it and it drives just fine as is, I have been told by others that they have gone 200k on theirs unplugged, I also heard that 9 out of 10 times cleaning them they will still not work, and I dont care to spend $200+ on a new one if unplugging it works, I just have the cel light on but oh well.
