Replaced turbo now what
 
I have a 2006 E 450 van box truck.The truck has 117000 mile with a 6.0 engine.Truck is used 5 days a week about 45 miles a day and see a lot of highway speeds.A few weeks ago the truck got hot few times,The temp was about 200 degrees. I got a call it was doing it again and the driver wanted to have me take it and see what happened .I brought the truck back to the shop and hooked up my scan tool.It told me there was no fan communication.I checked this out and the wires were cut by the fan.I replaced the fan and took for a test drive.I went about 5 miles and was heading back to the shop and hear aloud bang like a backfire and I lost power.Got back to the shop and used the scan tool again and said no turbo code 2262 .I was told I must have blown a turbo hose.I checked the hoses and they were fine.I pulled the turbo and took it apart.The exhaust side the fingers were rusty and stuck.The unison ring ring wouldn't move and the shaft for the VGT sensor was stiff.I replaced the turbo and checked the scan tool and I got another 2262 code as well as 2263 code.I took truck out and if I keep the RPM's under 2000 truck runs fine with no power.After 2000 RPM truck will miss and buck and spew Blue smoke.I replaced MAP sensor and made sure the hose was hooked up to the sensor and the valve cover.What am I missing here ? I did notice the MAP sensor voltage stayed the same wither idling or WOT. Please someone help me I don't want to run into Ford and am wondering If I really needed a turbo even though the turbo was rough .I also have a lot of soot at the tail pipe Thanks

That loud pop is almost definately a boot either popped off or ruptured, if this is like the trucks and it has a plastic CAC tube on the drivers side the plastic tube might have split. You heard a loud pop that probably scared you then it just lost all acceleration and was really sluggish,, Right?? that is a boot.

Thanks for replying.A plastic tube on CAC . I am not sure where this is ?I guess I am lttle slow here.There is the hose off the air filter to the turbo.That was good.Then hose comes off the trubo to the CAC That was good.Then a hose to the intake and that was good.Am I missing another pipe or tube I could miss something on the CAC that exploded ? Thanks again keep the ideas coming.

on late 04 TRUCKS and up they used a plastic pipe on the drivers side of CAC to the intake elbow.. the problem is in one of the 4 silicone boots attached to the cooler tubes, you have one on pass side of turbo going to the uluminum tube and there is one that attaches that tube to the intercooler, then on the front center of the engine you have a boot that attaches the the alum. tube to the intake elbow and there will also be a boot on the other side of that alum. tube that attaches to the inter cooler, sometimes this is hard to see,at least on the trucks because the air filter sits almost right on top of it, I know on the van bodies the tubes attach to the intercooler a little higher.

I looked at my setup.I have a plastic hose the the enters the turbo on the front.I have a blue hose that exits the turbo going to the CAC.both ends have blue hoses on each end of a aluminum pipe hooked to the passenger side of the CAC.then there is balck hoses going to the intake with an aluminum pipe.I checked the hoses over before instailling the connections back after replacing the turbo

pull the hose off the output of the turbo, the one that is on the front left side just to see if the turbo is pushing air. do you notice oil on either side of the intercooler area?? these motors always have oil in the aluminum tubes and intercooler from the vent in the valve cover and when a hose comes off or ruptures alot of times oil will spray out of them too, it is not nearly as common but the intercooler itself could have ruptured. you may have to feel around for the air leak but be very carefull around the fan,,,,,, You are not concerner with the tube that hooks to the air filter as that is not under pressure.
