6.0 injector upgrade question
 

So I just found out that I have 4 injectors sticking on my 2005 F350 SRW with 79,xxx. Im looking at upgrading to 155cc or 175cc. My question is, besides the recomendation of upgrading my fuel system, are injectors this size "plug and play" so to speak or are there other requirements such as injector tuning or FICM replacement needed. Im just wondering if its ok to put an upgraded injector in and drive..? Please pardon the potentially "stupid" question but im new to the diesel world and just need some clarification. Unless you got a tuner stay stock. You should have tuning adjustments made for the larger injectors.

If they really are just sticking, try changing your oil to Rotella 5/40 synthetic if you are running 15/40 . . ..and hot shot secret or rev x may help. . . Not permanent solution, but if it keeps you up and running till you can figure out what your performance goals are and best way to get there then why not? If you run bigger injectors you will need other mods and the guys here have been helpful so far. Look at their posts and ask questions. . I think these guys have learned the hard way! I'm grateful for the knowledge they share ;-) I have modified fuel system with 6.4 banjos and airdog II fuel pump. . . Sump in tank and coolant filter and 4 in exhaust next.

What have you attempted to address the sticky injectors?

First thing to address:
How often do you change your oil?
(Change every 5,000 miles or less?)
What type of oil do you use?
Have you tried any oil additives?
Have you been using any fuel additives?

Injectors in the 6.0 Powerstroke can go bad from fuel or oil issues:
Fuel: quality, pressure and additives issues
Oil: quality (dirty or wrong viscosity and others) or oil additives

If any issues with fuel or oil have been present, the first thing I would try is eliminating them and run the truck for awhile. Changing injectors without addressing the fuel and oil issues is just going to add confusion. I would wonder why my injectors are only lasting 70,000 miles when many trucks are getting upwards of 150,000 miles on them.
I have 105,000 miles on my '06 and the injectors are working fine. The truck runs better now than it did when it was new.

Rev-X is a band-aid for a bigger issue.

What would this bigger issue be? I really would like to know cause Rev-X will unstick injectors, now if they are too far gone and have been running for a long time with the stiction problem then there is a less of a chance Rev X will work. Now you shouldn't expect a product to do miracles you just have to take what Rev-X actually does, not that it doesn't fix every injector and then shoot it down as crap or a band aid.

The one bigger issue I can think of is the lack of maintenance by the owner. Using the cheapest oil they can find and going 20k miles on a oil change. Rev x is awesome stuff and it does work but, its no replacement for good maintenance practices. Rev x will tell you that you need to continue use of the product to keep the stiction issue cleared up. In that way it is a band aid because it doesn't repair the issue just clears it up until you supposedly stop using it.

There you go. Anytime "continued use" is required means it's a band aid. I'd even suggest using it once a year to "cure" anything is still putting a band aid on the issue.
