6.0 Turbo Problems
 
I have a 2005 Ford F250 V8 6.0L Turbo Diesel. I am a second owner, use the truck as a daily driver of about 10 to 15 miles per day, and the truck has about 180,000 miles. The truck recently got a overhaul with a bulletproof kit from sinister diesel. ARP Headstuds, new black diamond head gaskets, new O rings, new oil cooler, sinister EGR delete kit, 5" MBRP exhaust and an SCT Tuner programmed with 3 custom tunes. I recently installed a Stage 1 Turbo w/ billet wheel from mad turbo werks, a brand new FICM, and have since installed an Edge Insight CTS with expandable EGT sensor. A day after installing the new stage 1 turbo(last week) it started to blow white/gray smoke, at idle, and up to about 2500 rpms where it cleans up. My VGT percentage is stuck at 85% on the Edge Insight. It has very little power and it seems as if the turbo is screaming hot, even at idle. The truck runs fine when the turbo is not wired up. I recently cleaned exhaust back pressure tube and changed the sensor to no avail. I've looked at numerous threads and havent seem to have found the problem. Adrian from MTW said if its a turbo problem he would gladly take it back as his stuff is warranted. I did the baro/intake check already. My diesel mechanic friend said it may be a wiring problem and he was gonna look at it next week when he has time. However before I send it back I want to omit any symptoms and problems if it is not the turbo itself. Could it be an actuator problem? Could it be a wiring problem? Could it be another sensor? What could possibly be the fix/solution to this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. :argh:

Swap back to your old turbo and see if the issues still exist. If the problems stop, you have your solution.

Did you leave the EGT valve under the hood and plugged in? Seems like I read here that you either need to have it plugged in even when removed from the system, or have a custom tune in the PCM in order for the VGT system to operate correctly.

This is what i was thinking. Only problem is, I changed the turbo because the veins were sticking. Im gonna take a leap of faith and try to clean the old one myself. Should I buy that turbo cleaning/repair kit? Some of the 6.0 turbo cleaning tutorials don't call for it. Thanks

Ok guys, now my truck is throwing A 0611 FICM code now that i been running the truck with the turbo wiring harness detached. The VGT percentage is still idlling at 85% on the insight and billowing white smoke and the FICM reading is jumping up and down from 48v to 42v sometimes. Also to note, I recently installed 2 new mastercare Ford f250 spec batteries and professionally installed a Viper 5904 V remote start alarm. Could it be that the FICM is faulty? Could it be a wiring problem? Please help? Thanks in advance.
