the egr cooler cools exhaust gasses before they are routed back into the intake manifold. Ive seen the bullet proof coolers pop too. There are coolant filter kits that tie into your oem cooling system in come with install instructions.

What has to be done to delete the egr? What has to be done to rebuild the oil cooler?

youll remove the turbo, oil filter housing and intake manifold, then you can remove your oil cooler and egr cooler. The kits come with instructions.

The boys at Bullet Proof Diesel can sale you everything to make your 6.0 reliable. there parts are pricey but i did it all to my truck and it was well worth it. Its to bad they stopped making the EGR delete, i wouldn't by there cooler i would just find a decent delete kit.

I disagree with that, many stealership techs are often uneducated. Hence the "I had to have 3 turbos replaced before it worked right" no you paid to have turbos replaced and the third time they finally figured out the root problem. Dealers LOVE 6.0s now that they're out of warranty! The solution many shops come up with is "just keep throwing parts at it until it works" but there are some very reputable shops all over the country that know the 6.0 inside and out. If you're savvy with tools then Bulletproof-ing your rig will take a weekend. If you're going extremely in-depth and having your heads machined and your injectors tested then budget for a week or 2. Cab does not have to come off, granted it makes it easier but not mandatory.

The real problem with this motor is there are only 10 bolts holding the head to the block (4 per cylinder). The 7.3 — as well as all other diesel V-8s that I know of — have 18 (6 per cylinder). It's a terrible design flaw, & anything you do (including ARP studs) is just band-aiding the problem.

That, & the HPOP blows up with alrming regularity; taking out the IPR & some of the injectors with it. :argh:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

FWIW, a Cummins I6 has 26 head bolts, (6 per cylinder). They aren't famous for blowing head gaskets, & neither is the 7.3. Do you see the connection?

Big Connection. I had Bill @ Mountain High Performance o-ring my heads, along with hardened seats and bigger valves. I dont want to speak two loud when i say this but its working great.
