SCT Tuner questions...

Guys,
I have an '04 PSD with 120k on the odo. it's a gently used truck in which the egr cooler finally croaked. When I had that replaced with a bullet proof egr cooler, I went ahead with a major top-end rebuild on the truck by a very reputable shop. They did everything: new valves, machined heads. ARP studs, new ecim, new oil cooler...everything. We finished it all off with installing an SCT tuner. Wow, what a difference that made - just with the pre-loaded tunes.

Now...my question(s):
a. I have the sct tuner set to the "middle" of the canned tunes supplied with it. My mileage so far is terrible...16+ mpg. when the truck was stock (and running right) I got 21+ on the highway, unloaded. Any ideas as to why my mileage is so low? I did what I thought was the "standard" stuff when uploading.

b. I bought the tuner from MPT because they offered up 3 free tunes, on top of the 3 pre-loads. I ordered those up, they'll be ready next week...question here is; does anyone have any experience with MPT and their custom tunes? I've heard about Matt R.@ gearhead and I like his attitude (as put forth on his website, anyway). But before I go running off buying tunes from somebody else...I'd like to hear what people think of the MPT tunes.

I'm looking forward to everyone's thoughts. btw, I drive conservative...I keep the tach between 2000 - 2500rpm out on the highway and way less that 2000 trundling around town.

I'm sure I've left some things out...I can fill in the gaps as we go along...I'm new at all this tuner stuff. I'm after the best blend of performance and mileage possible.

Thanks for indulging me.
Cheers
Thom

did you do a ford pcm upgrade? put it back to stock and see if the tuner caused the mileage drop

I'll need to call the shop and see...switching back to stock and checking the mileage is a good idea however...We'll see what the shop says on Monday.

Thanks for the suggestion - we'll get to the bottom of this...:c:

Cheers
