shock absorbers
I bought some skyjacker shocks for my truck. The install was simple, i has a 6" lift on it. I purchased shocks for that application but I'm not sure if I've put then on right. Can you actually put shocks on upside down or does it matter?
Some shocks have to be mounted a certain way. Think for skyjacker the piston side should be on the top end.
That's what I've been thinking. It will be a pain once i take them off and the expand. The truck actually has a really really soft ride now. Hopefully that is because of the way i mounted them.
Keep in mind it may be set up with a soft ride so you don't break bones bombing through rough country, or for better articulation when rock crawling. The instructions didn't say "this way up" on the shocks? I hate bad installation instructions!

I had no instructions inside the box at all. What i did see that made me 2nd guess myself was after the shocks were mounted, i drove around my neighborhood, pulled back into my driveway and checked everything. That's when i could see writing in the shock, it was upside but due to the way the shocks were in there i couldn't read all of the text i could only see what looked like the part number.

Well the fronts you really can only put on one way right? You should be able to mount those rear shocks however you want.
Right fronts should be stem mounts. I have had rear shock that said to mount a certain way.
I took my shocks off today and turned them the other way. They can be mounted upside down, after thinking about how the shocks/axle flex i realized what the suspension was actually doing. The ride is now smooth without any bouncing or knocking. That could've been disastrous especially since its already been on a trail with the shocks mounted wrong. ++ NOTE ++
MAKE SURE YOU MOUNT YOUR SHOCKS RIGHT THE FIRST TIME SO YOU DON'T END UP SPENDING ANOTHER HOUR OUT OF YOUR DAY IN THE COLD FIXING IT. |
1999-2004 trucks uses eye mounts up front not stems with leaf spring front suspensions.
Damn leaf springers, I'm always getting their stuff confused!
