Engine stalled and locked up
 

I have a stock 6.0 with 180,000 miles on it. about 10,000 miles ago I replaced the injectors I bought from the local International dealer. Did not place the o-rings. Recently the engine started running rough, like unbalanced. I thought I had a tire prolapsing. it was losing power fast. within a minute it was dead along the side of the road. I tried to turn it over and it was locked up. I towed it to my shop and it sat for a day. I just tried to turn it over and it did a couple of revolutions. I stopped and tried it again and it started locking up again. I am assuming that I either have oil or fuel dumping in to the cylinder. Do you think I am on the right track?

Sounds like hydro locking. Im not expert but maybe pull injectors replace seals and etc. You can try searching it on forum. Ill look as well

I don't believe it is coolant because the coolant level is right up to parr. I think it may be oil as diesel would run by the rings faster

It won't run by the rings fast, that is why you could turn it over after it sat. You could have had a injector come loose, it happens, this will allow fuel to pour into the cylinder. What I would do is pull the glowplugs and then crank it over to see what cylinder it was then go from there. Ford's turque for the injectors is not enough, I believe they say 24ftlbs, I normally set my tqwrench to 28ftlbs then I still give it a little extra umph. there should be 65psi of fuel pressure so you can imagine if the injector is loose then fuel will go past the orings and force it's way into the cylinder.

We did get some codes for cylinder #4 which I think is suppose to be the 2nd one back on the left bank. We are going to dig in to that and see what we can find...thanks, Bob

Yup. Id say seals or maybe a sticky injector.

if it is a loose injector then alot of times it won't throw the right code for the cylinder, when a injector comes loose it also lets combustion pressure into the fuel rail that is part of the head and that pressure can and will affect the other injectors in that bank, to be safe retighte all the injectors on that side if you find one that is too loose, I would personnally remove all 4 and replace the orings/at least/ then reinstall them with proper torque/more then the book says/. It can be tricky to narrow down the correct injector so it will be wise to at least get 4 sets of seals,they are cheap, maybe $5 each.

My thoughts exactly, yank that valve cover (you were right, DRIVER side) and put new o-rings and copper crush washers on all 4 injectors and be done with it.
