Bullet proof kit
 
Hey guy s im ordering all the parts for my bullet proof kit. im doing the factory head gaskets with arp ,egr delete, coolant filter, oil cooler, new gaskets and seals for everything, new glow plugs, and water pump. is there anything else you guys think i should change or replace while im in there.:jump:

When you are finished, could you post a review of the things you learned or found to be difficult, what you would do different, and maybe some tips/tricks that you figured out?

I will be doing the same in the next couple of weeks, cab is going in the air. Going to "TRY" to get a write-up done for it, but we'll see. I know it's going to be hard tearing it apart and stopping to take pictures along the way.

Dang... If Mdub is caving in I guess I'm gonna have to bolt on some parts too. I'm not a picture guy but, I will share with you the best tool I have ever used to help loosen up dredded V-band. Ok, well maybe the best tool is a couple of rattles from an air hammer but, not every man is qualified to use such a tool in such a way :dang:

The V-bands have a tendency to hold on real well when you're trying to get them to let go of the turbo... If you're like me and alot of other guys and don't have access to a cab lift the unique angles found while laying over the radiator can lead to drinking!
Okay ok, enough already! I find that a paint can key is the best tool I have ever used to get V-bands to give up. If you're wondering what a paint can key is, don't worry I will explain. It is basicallt a 3" long screw driver that is bent 90* at the tip used to pop the lid on paint cans. Even better is lowz and homers give them away for free :jump: Due to the limited space around the turbo I find that these little jewels fit in there just right and because they are curved at the tip you can slide them under the band then pull them sideways and watch those B*&%^*$ little bands pop right off :c:

That's an awesome idea!

FWIW, I use a big blanket on top of the motor and lay right on it. For the V-bands I've typically done the ol flat blade screwdriver and a hammer. Get the screwdriver seated just right and whack it, usually pops em off.

I noticed with mine that taking the front tires off and setting the axle on low jack stands made a HUGE difference (mainly because the beast is so high up), also I took the grille/bumper/radiator/IC out for easier access.

I know I've been slacking on the write up for my dad's rig, but such happens when life gets in the way, wife had a baby in August and now the Navy is taking us to Guam for 3 years with EOD Mobile Unit 5 early 2013
