P0261 - P0264 - P0273 Trouble Codes

Background History
'06 F350 Super Duty that needs to be plugged in to start when cold (30F or cooler which really isn't cold). Once it does start a lot of black smoke and rough running until it warms up then runs like a champ. During the summer while hauling horse in the mountains while under heavy load the CEL would come on. It would not do it every time hauling horses. After a couple of days of driving without the trailer the light would go out. Was in an area where there was no chance of running a scan. The FICM has been tested and tested okay - both batteries have recently been replaced.

This past Sunday while hauling horses again and under heavy load (99% calculated load according to Auto Enginuity) of pulling a hill onto the interstate the CEL again came on. I had just purchased Auto Enginuity so I hooked up the computer and pulled the codes.

P0261 Cylinder #1 injector circuit low
P0264 Cylinder #2 injector circuit low
P0273 Cylinder #5 injector circuit low

My questions

Since it is a "circuit" it should mean electrical?
Does it indicate that maybe the FICM is still bad and only occasionally acting up?

I will also have questions concerning Auto Enginuity that I will post in a new thread when I have more time to write it up but basically the software is telling me due to the weight class of the 350 there is a ton of stuff I can't check :(

#2 and #5 are on the same plug on the FICM, while #1 is on a separate one. Usually you'll see all of the injectors from one plug acting up, but it is VERY possible your FICM is going out.

Have your batteries load tested first before doing anything. Then test the FICM on a cold engine, the test procedure is at the top of the 6.0 page. Let us know what you find.:c:

Yes the batteries are new. I had tested the FICM and it did test okay but that was a while ago. Will test again.

Mike I may send you a PM about Auto Enginuity with some questions.

Sure. I'll try as best as I can, I'm not completely AE fluent yet haha.

just remember a battery with a bad cell will load test good. the only real way to tell is if you go and test each and every cell and you cannot do that with these slabs ( car batteries)
