F350, 6.0l stalls after walkie talkie is keyed.
 

Ok, here is a good one to ponder. I have a 2003 F350 with the 6.0l. Nothing special and a basic crew cab. I've had this truck posted several times for oil leaks and no starts which has all been fixed thanks to your help. So now the problem is when our military police use their two way radio the rpm goes up momentarily then the truck dies. It will start right back up but as soon as you key the mike, it dies. Never seen this happen before! Any ideas?

Is this the caused by the small hand held radio or the in-cab (hard mount) radio??

One thing I should have mention is that I replaced the ICP and the wire connector however I did not use Ford OEM connector. I purchased one from Napa because it was considerably cheaper. Now I am wonder if Ford's is shielded whereas the Napa brand is not. With the radio antenna facing one way the rpm's just increase but if you face the antenna right at the engine, it is like turning the key off.

I would say the main cause is that your military radio is not FCC compliant as for interfearance, I bet the radios will mess up laptop computer too if it is too close, these trucks are not shielded for EMP blasts like military viehicles are.

I had that same issue with a cb radio, in my dodge truck ( see sig). Every time I keyed the mic, it would fall on its face and almost stall, ideling and driving. I went to a CB shop at a local Truck Stop and was told to hard wire it to the battery and ground to the chassis. I previously had the cigarette plug that powered it. I hard wired it & it cured the problem. I dont understand it, but it worked. Never heard of a hand-held causing that issue though. Any issues with the actual in-cab radio? You may have to inquire with a radio specialist.

THat is a distinct possibility. :humm:

Most MP radios are off the shelf commercial units to provide them coverage with the local law enforcement systems. Using a 500+ amp with my transceiver has NO effect on the motor or electronics. Nor does it have any effect on other vehicles in the direct vicinity.

I'd suggest trying a second radio to see if the condition still exists. Otherwise that truck has an issue you need to to find.

Gremlins, gotta hate 'em!:td: I used to have a neighbor who had an INSANE CB radio base station at his house. Everytime he transmitted, my TV, truck radio would go on the blink, and my cell phone would ring continuously. The guy was a real a$$hole when confronted about it. He was dealt with rather harshly by the FCC. I wonder how they found out.:w2:

I tried other radios with the same affect. Also had our radio guy come by and he was stumped. We then went to two other like trucks and radios had NO affects to them. I also hooked my scanner and monitored the data screen while keying the radio and did not see anything obvious. No voltage drops, nothing with the ICP, FICM, nothing. Strange.

Thats just plain WIERD! Sorry I cant offer a fix for it bro.:humm:
