Checked the FICM at all? How does it run once it's fired?

1st Diesel 09-25-2012 11:29 AM

haven't checked the FICM yet. haven't had an extra set of hands with me. but will do that today. once its fire it pugs and chugs when cold but runs completely fine when warmed up. I noticed last night it is having a misfire. So i know one or two injectors are bad now. But one thing I forgot to mention is that last week is when it started running like crap and my assumption is because my water in fuel light was on. I'm pretty sure i got a bad batch of diesel from speedway cause the light was on until I managed to run the tank out of it. Since refueling it hasn't came back on.

Did you drain the water separator? How old are the fuel filters?

I'd double check the batteries and check that FICM before doing anything else, too easy not to do it.

definitely plan on it. I did drain the water separator. fuel filters are about a month and a half old. I changed them before i brought the truck from new mexico to ohio about 4 weeks ago. i'll check the FICM and batteries and repost as soon as I do to let you know the voltage.

Update: so i figured her problem out. FICM voltage is low. Koeo is 47, cranking is 40 and running is about 37-38. My brother in law is a computer wiz and should he able to solder it for me to get the voltage back to normal. Im pretty nervous. But would this ficm problem account for misfires, and a almost no hot start? She fires fine when cold. But when warm, i have to crank the s#!$ out of her.

Sure could yup. Try it and let us know how it goes!

how in the crap do you pull the housing apart on the FICM? It is driving me crazy. I took all the bolts out that run along the edge of it. Do you just have to pry like crazy or is there some special trick that i'm missing.

Mdub707 09-27-2012 01:34 PM

Pull the inspection cover off and take those 7 screws out, they're holding it together too. Even then, it's tough sometimes. I usually run a utility knife through the two halves to separate the seal made there, then pry it.

AHHHHH. Ok. Thank ya MDub. didn't realize I had to take the 7 screws out also. Thankfully I didn't keep prying. Hopefully my dumb@$$ didn't break anything.
