05 f250. what to do next?

i have a 05 f250 i got it the friday before last christmas and by the new year it was in the shop with two blown heads/gasket and screwed egr cooler. i had the egr delete done along with new heads gasket and the arp headstuds. since then iv been paranoid about somthin goin wrong. i have put the cat and muffler delete, a s&b intake, and a sct sf3 tuner on it. wanting to get custom tunes but was wondering if there was anything i need to do befor i do so.

any suggestions?

ha sorry im new to all this. whats a cool filter kit?

Coolant filter, these motors are formed in a sand casting and some of that sand can stick to the cast iron and it will wear away in time and flow through the coolant system. The main problem is the sand will clogg the oil cooler and the coolant flows through the oil first then through the egr cooler, when the oil cooler gets clogged then the egr cooler will fail becaus not enough coolant makes it to the egr cooler and it will steam up and rupture and or cause head gaskets to fail. Hopefully they replaced the oil cooler when they replaced the egr cooler because the clogged oil cooler is what causes the egr cooler to fail. being able to monitor engine oil temp and engine cooant temp will let you know the health of the oil cooler, the key is to not see the oil temp more then 15degrees hotter the the coolant. A good coolant flush and coolant filter is highly recommended. As a note Intenational installs coolant filters in their box trucks that use the same engine

ahh ok ok. would having the stock injectors hurt anythin putting custom tunes on? and any brand coolant filter kit you recommend?

bobfbigman 09-16-2012 05:43 PM

stock injectors will be fine, the tuner will program for them. With the coolant filter systems it comes down to what looks good to you, they all do the same thing but some look nicer then others.

Wish I knew about the coolant filter when I had my 04 ford psd. I went through 5 EGR coolers, headgaskets, 3 turbos in 1 1/2 years :argh: Finally had enough and gave my truck the boot. I still miss it tho.

If the coolant filter keeps the egr from going out and i have the egr delete whats the point in getting one?

Good Point! :pca1:

To keep the oil cooler free of debris, since that's what usually causes blown headgaskets and blown egr coolers. The oil cooler is the root cause. You can't just delete the oil cooler. You can go with a bulletproof oil cooler setup (remote mount) but they're about $2k.

Coolant filter is about $130 for this truck and worth it's weight in gold.
