Hey guys I have been watching this forum for a couple months now and finally decided to join so I could chat and learn more about these trucks.
I traded my piece of crap bmw for this truck, I must say I got the better end of the deal and I feel bad for the other fella. Its a 2004 F250 Lariat with the 6.0, has 118,XXX on the odometer and still running strong. So far the truck has a 10in lift, 39" BFG Projects, Mickey Thompson 17's, 4.56 gears front and rear, bulletproof egr, aftermarket diff cover, Icon aluminum trac bar, 4in turbo back straight pipe to a RBP tip, rhino lined bed and Lariot gold strip, Amp Research steps, under rails toolbox, bilstein's on all four corners, fire extinguisher, and of course ole glory :usa:. I want to add gauges, a bigger turbo (interested in the Mad turbo werks but want more info), tune, ladder bars, resi shocks or better yet coilovers up front. Anything else I'm missing? I would greatly appreciate it if you guys can explain what I need to do to beef up my motor so it can handle maybe 500rwhp or even post links to where you have told another new guy. My budget is extremely low and this will be a long slow build. I just bought some Rotella T6 today so tomorrow I will be changing the oil and filter. Thanks. |
Good looking truck :tu: . Alot of guys are running Edge insight for gauges or scan gauge. For tunes hands down sct with custom tunes from any dealer of your choice. I perfer matt@ gearheads srl+. Before you start running race tunes id check or go ahead and do studs and head gaskets. From what ive collected from everyone the stock tranny will do fine with 500hp just a matter of getting there. Upgraded fuel system, injectors, and turbo. Seems like your going in the same direction I want to go which isnt cheap. Just be perpared to drop money :argh: . Sure mdub and some of the other guys w chime in. Do alot of reading and good luck.

Ill think it'll be hard to achieve what you want with 39's let alone your fuel mileage is probably in the crapper I take it? Just remember lifted trucks cause front end parts to wear pre maturely and go through ball joints, tie rods, etc. Nice truck though btw.

A long slow build is how it starts for the smart people. Just read and save cash. Too many people jump in WAY too deep ending up going backwards and losing money.
Right now: Gauges and an SCT w/custom tunes (STAY sane with power). Check for studs, EGR cooler has been done so you may already have studs. Later: Keep reading and asking questions. Those of us not trying to sell you something will be honest and forward about your plans. I do agree 500+ with 39"s is going to be a tough one. I'd say be happy with any added power and stop worrying about the numbers game. ---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Custom tuning comes from several reputable companies when you buy an SCT tuning device. Gear Head, Truck Source Diesel, Quick Tricks, Innovative, either of those will set you up right with what you are looking to achieve. Your mileage isn't too high for added power, but you need to be smart about it. How much can you afford to play?? |

Honestly I dont have any money to throw at it except for cost of fuel. Once work picks up I get a decent amount every week but construction is slow right now and at 19 its a little tough to get that call to work. ---AutoMerged DoublePost--- So is this the SCT that I need to buy? SCT Performance - SCT X3 Power Flash Ford Programmer**Part Number: 3000 |
Man your motor isn't even broken in yet. I had 130k when I did studs and tunes. Gauges first. If you plan on running custom tunes like SRL+ or something crazy id say go ahead and do your studs and gaskets. Some guys say just wait till you blow one but I don't see a point in waiting till it causes a problem, use ford gaskets also. As for mpg everyone said i was crazy and it was no where near right after I had my work done and was getting 19-20 mpg with sct pre flash tune. Sure it could be 2+- off. But I only filled up twice a month and its my daily driver. Your mpg will drop once you put a race tune on it. I get around 14 now.

For custom tunes id go with matt@ gearhead. I have his and the quicktricks looney wild. Both are pretty close, and both have awesome customer service. Majority of the time you will have your tune the day you pay for it. Check out edge insight for gauges unless you like the pillar ones.
