"BAMF" broken a*@ mother fu%#er

truck wont start died 3 months ago after changing orings on egr valve, several stupid things i did though ran out of diesel first, then got it running(with the help of 3 cans of either)about 7 hours later had a very rough idle and no power, thought it was air but i started it 10 times the next day and i was only getting worse. so i changed fuel filters, oil, egr delete, new ficm, still nothing i have 49 volts at ficm, my oil pressure climbs to normal during cranking black smoke pours from exhaust i dont even know if what i have already replaced needed to be replaced or what im lost now

Can be a bad IPR, IPC, or even a bad HPOP, just my two cents Im sure one of the 6.0L specialist will chime in shortly, but why did you use ether? its not the end of the world to use a little but three cans???? ruin rings like that...

Either is a big NONO, thes trucks are self priming anyway, just cycle the key a couple times to prime it. Have you pulled the cap on upper fuel filter to make sure you were getting fuel when the key is turned on? another thing to do is to remove airfilter tubing and make sure turbo is free and not stuck, if its stuck it will not start. Pull the IPR and make sure the screen isn't damaged, if it is it can keep the HPoil system from building prssure.

im going to go pull ipr now my either thing was out of frustration this is the first time a 6.0 has given me this much headache thx for the help

ok i just had my wife try and start my truck will i watched the turbo and will cranking for 10-15 sec the turbo turned approximately 1/8 of a turn is that normal or should it rotate more

bobfbigman 08-25-2012 12:24 PM

try to spin it with your fingers, should be able to spin it by the center nut with just your fingers and it should spin free, just see if it feels sticky.

I would say if it turned that far it should be good though.

it turns very easy, ipr screen is clean and not damaged, is there a test for hpop i could possibly do

bobfbigman 08-25-2012 04:42 PM

What confuses me is you say it pours black smoke when trying to start. That means the injectors are firing and the ficm is telling them to fire, it also tells me the hpop is putting out enough pressure.
One quick thing you can do is to unplug the ICP sensor and see if it will start, a bad one can cause this too.when the ICP sensor is unplugged it lies to the computer and tells it that it has 2000psi so it doesn't leave you stranded if it fails, most of the time, but they can fail and still leave you stranded.

i unplugged the icp sensor still nothing, i have a guy from work coming with a snap-on scanner that does the software update and all to see what codes are coming up and oil pressure on top

Usually a no start like this will point to a bad FICM (electrical side of injector) or a high pressure oil leak or failure (hydraulic side of injector) and no smoke... but you have smoke which means they're working. Usually that's a much more difficult/expensive fix. The ether was a huge no-no, but I have used it a couple times to get mine to fire, but only a 1 second burst or so.

Can we get some more background on the truck? Check out here and see if anything comes to mind: https://www.dieselbombers.com/ford-p...questions.html

Might be time to do a compression check.
