Getting 24 mpg on my 4x4 dually?????

I just bought an 05 fx4 4x4 dually crew cab. King ranch this is an awesome truck when I got it claimed I was getting 19 mpg cruising at 60 bought an sct tuner with some customs tunes and got an intake....but now the meter is saying 24.2 mpg at 60 mph. I know they call it the lie o meter but hand calculated the same. I dont feel like this is right but if it is I ll be one happy camper!!!!!:choochoo::choochoo::choochoo::choochoo ::choochoo::choochoo::choochoo::choochoo::choochoo ::choochoo::choochoo::choochoo::choochoo::choochoo ::choochoo::choochoo::choochoo:

I don't feel like it's right either. Tuning usually throws those things off even more. What size tires you have? What gear ratio in the rear end?

How are you calculating this? You can't just fill the pump til it clicks off either, or your readings will be off. :pca1:

unless you use the same pump at the same basic time of day and the nozzle is at the same position. But it wouldn't make a HUGE difference in calculation either. Soooo...what you are saying is you can drive 500 miles and only put about 20.7 gallons of diesel in your tank to fill it back up? thats a 40 gal ain't it? that would be 1000 miles per tank, give or take. Hell I'd be a skippin sumbish to. wow.
I usually fill it up to the filler neck where i can see it. It's at the same level no matter where i choose to fuel up. btw, i get 12.6 mpg:argh:

Doesn't matter if you use the same pump over and over at the same time, it's going to be off if you just fill til it clicks. You're still not full. It takes me almost 15 minutes to "top it off" after the pump clicks. You're missing a few gallons and it throws calculations like this off immensely. You need to be filling until you see fuel in the neck. There isn't a 4x4 6.0 on the planet pulling these MPG's unless it's being tossed out of an airplane. I have the lightest cab/bed configuration (besides RC/LB) and I get 15.... I can see 17, maybe 18, but 20 is VERY hard to get... 24 is damn near impossible. But this guy did it in a dually 4x4? Doubt it. :pca1:

I say very unlikely as well, but if it is close to true, then more power to him. Also another thing to consider, and correct me if i am wrong, would be, altitude, area you are in, and whether its real hilly or flat freeway driving.

Driving habits would definitely make a difference, as well as the terrain you drive. I don't see anyone coaxing 24 on flat ground ever. I've seen ONE truck get close to this (22ish mpg) and it was Innovative Diesels shop truck, which was 2x4, lowered, had bigger injectors and bigger turbo.... cruising 50 miles on flat ground at about 45-55mph.

Hell if you already hand calculated it every time you fill up you cant argue with that you would be getting around a 1,000 miles on a tank.If your just going off the tuner than ya something isnt right.

You can argue it, since most guys have no clue how to properly hand calculate mileage on one of these trucks. A lot of the guys used to do the "harpoon mod" just to make this easier. They'd drop the tanks down and cut the lines inside the tank so they could get a "full' tank faster.

Hmmm, a mod for mpg calculation. Haven't heard of that one yet. I gotta friend has a 2005 dodge dually, with some kind of chip or tuner he claims 22 hwy 18-19 city but that's just what he says. Could be exaggeration. While I'm on the subject, think if I go to 3.55's with 315/75/16's on 7.3 psd srw,I could get 22-25 mpg? If modded right that is what I'd like to see.

I sure hope they know how to calculate it Miles Driven Divided By Amount Of Fuel Put In
