bio diesel in my 6.0?
 

just kinda looking into it and starting to do some research on it. what all would i need to have my truck run off bio diesel? do i get better fuel milage? is it bad for my motor?

i put some diesel in that was mixed 1 part bio to 3 parts regular diesel and i my average fuel mileage went up almost 4 mpg.

so i started to wrap my head around it and was thinking about it.

I know plenty of people who burn bio in their 6.0's, even 100% bio. Keep reading, you have tons of research to do. You did not pick up 4mpg from switching to bio unfortunately. Either something is wrong with the truck or you did your math wrong on that.

Do you plan to make your own bio, or buy it? When you start with bio, keep an extra set of fuel filters in the truck at all times. It will literally cleanse your entire fuel system right out, including build up in the tank. Start small, with like 25% bio, then 50%, then 75%, then 100%... you'll be changing fuel filters a few times in that stretch, but once it's cleaned out, it will run like a charm. It will be quieter, and it is the ultimate lubrication additive! Just be careful when the temps drop down, it gels real easy.

once you go bio can you go back?

Absolutely. The tricky part is just the first few times you use higher concentrations as it will cleanse your crap right out of your tank.

Technically speaking it should have slightly lower BTU rating than diesel, meaning there is less power to be made, but it's so lubricative that it almost couter acts that. If you ran it on a dyno, I'd expect a MINOR loss of power, but nothing you'd ever really notice driving it.

You can always look into a vegistroke system too. You can run straight WVO (waste vegetable oil) in it, or bio. It would allow you to run bio year round as well, and you'd have two completely separate fuel systems, so it would keep the diesel and bio separate.
