6.0L bullet proof phased approach

I'm new to the forum, and I'm also a new diesel owner, having just bought a 2005 KR with a 6.0 Powerstroke and 70,000 miles. It is stock, with no mods. You all have been a great reference in my truck search. There are no signs of of EGR/oil cooler problems, but I want to be proactive and do what I can to prevent them. My question is, can I do a phased bullet-proof, beginning with the mods that are most important, adding work as I can afford it? I plan on having all fluids flushed and replaced and adding the Edge Insight CTS so that I can at least monitor pressures, temps and FICM voltage. I'll also go with synthetics and OEM filters, and will be maintaining fluids and filters regularly (I know this is the foundation of avoiding problems). Or, should I tell my wife we have to pawn her wedding ring to do a $3k rebuild?!!! :s:
Thanks in advance!

Flushing the cooling system will realy help but if the oil cooler is clogged it will not flush out of there. Monitor the engine coolant temp and engine oil temp, if they get 15deg. or more apart then a oil cooler is neccesary. By adding a coolant filter now you can avoid any major problems with clogging if it's not already. Welcome to the 6.0 crowd.

I'd start with the monitor too and go from there. If the oil cooler is in good shape (difference in oil temp and coolant temp is close) then I'd do a flush and add a coolant filter, and go from there. Sounds like you have a good base to work with and understand enough about what needs to be done! Welcome to DB! :c:
